POSITION TITLE: MIDDLE SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
DEPARTMENT: ADMINISTRATION
REPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPAL
SUMMARY: Responsible for providing assistance to the Principal in the administration of the total school program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Serves as administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal.
Administers a program of student discipline and interact with students to encourage positive performance.
Assists with staff evaluation.
Manages building staff, including class schedules and building problems.
Utilizes technology applications to facilitate scheduling, grading and data analysis.
Supervises staff attendance and assignment of substitute teachers.
Assists scheduling special events during the school day.
Assists with coordinating the development of the master teaching schedule.
Provides general supervision to students.
Supervises extra curricular activities.
Maintains relationship with parents and community.
Assists in safety inspections and safety drill activities.
Supervises and evaluates teachers, departments and teams as assigned by the principal, providing instructional leadership.
Performs other tasks as required by the building principal.
Participates in district-wide activities, in-service and committees as appropriate.
Works with the Central Office Staff on system-wide initiatives and problems.
Delivers professional learning to staff
Leads in AVID implementation
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Employees may need to work beyond the school day to complete necessary tasks and may need to attend school events after school.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY, AN INDIVIDUAL MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM EACH ESSENTIAL DUTY SATISFACTORILY. THE REQUIREMENTS LISTED BELOW ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND/OR ABILITY REQUIRED. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Master's Degree and/or Sixth Year Certificate.
Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS:
Intermediate Administrative Certification.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, employees and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and concrete variables.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Basic knowledge and experience with standard hardware and software applications. Ability to use computer for E-mail, word processing, accounting, databases and presentations.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely in verbal communication. Ability to convey ideas clearly and concisely in written format. Ability to perform duties with awareness of, and to adhere to, all district requirements and Board of Education policies and the State of Connecticut Educator Standards.
