Job Description
POSITION: Assistant Principal - Academies
DESCRIPTION: Responsible for assisting the principal to provide the instructional and administrative leadership necessary for addressing student achievement and overall school effectiveness.
REPORTS TO: Principal
DEPARTMENT: Instruction
JOB TYPE: Full-time
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
CALENDAR TYPE: 11 month
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university. Master’s degree or higher in education administration.
- Minimum of three years of teaching experience at high school level.
- School administrator experience is preferred or academic coach or teacher leader.
- ADE Principal Certificate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with development and implementation of the master schedule and student schedules.
- Analyze and assess past school performance in order to plan for new programs.
- Assist with evaluation of instructional staff.
- Implement and review data related to common assessments such as district assessment.
- Implement and oversee RtI program/MTSS.
- Remain abreast of current curriculum trends, instructional strategies, practices, developments, instructional materials and related governmental procedures and guidelines.
- Conduct classroom visits to support teachers in classroom management and instructional strategies.
- Assist in the selection of school personnel.
- Plan activities for professional development.
- Develop and implement teacher orientations.
- Participate in workshops, in-services, and other administrative staff development activities.
- Plan, coordinate and follow up school academic teams/competitions.
- Curriculum/scope and sequence, lesson plans and substitute lesson plans follow up.
- Coordinate and review data from academic software.
- Monitor staff mentorship program
- Oversee IEP, EL, GT and programs in the campus.
- Attend student activities and events outside of the academic day.
- Coordinate before and after school programs and clubs.
- Work collaboratively with parents, school, and community on all school related matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
- Ability to organize special programs for assigned campus.
- Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and work processing software, calculator, copy machine and telephone.
- Ability to analyze data.
- Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Light Work: may require occasional light lifting
- Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
- Position is in office setting and may involve prolonged work at a desk in one location.
- Moderate travel is required.
