St. James the Less Nursery School Scarsdale, NY United States ECE Program (P-K only) Position Starts: August 1, 2026 Application Deadline: May 30. 2026 The Nursery School at St. James the Less is a warm and welcoming community of children, parents, and teachers that was founded in 1962 by the Church of St. James the Less. The Nursery School serves 55 students and their families, run by the Head of School with the help of 8 teachers, teacher assistants, a bookkeeper and part-time administrator. The Nursery School is under the jurisdiction of the Church, with its Head of School managing school affairs but answering directly to the Rector and the Vestry when appropriate. Families whose children attend our schools take pride in their affiliation with this longstanding school in the community, though our families are drawn not just from the immediate area, but also the surrounding suburbs. The Head of School/Director will oversee the daily operations of the school, its admissions, teaching staff, its budget, and all activities inside and outside the classroom. The person selected for this position must be a sensitive and mature individual, able to relate well to both children and adults. The person must have the personality and ability to provide leadership and stability for the program's continuity. The person should ensure good communication with the Church clergy and vestry, and communicate to parents and the community the goals of the school. In addition, and importantly, the person selected for this position must have the skills and stamina to oversee a transition to a full-day program, which requires obtaining daycare licensing from New York State. Salary range for the position, based on experience, is $65,000-$75,000 plus benefits.
