SUMMARY: The School Counselor - Mental Health Support position will work closely with the administrative team to coordinate, facilitate, and implement mental health support services. The School Counselor - Mental Health Support position will also work with administrative team to coordinate consistent support services across the district. The School Counselor - Mental Health Support position will provide emotional support and foster a safe and successful learning environment for students at the elementary, middle and high school levels. The primary focus will be on building students' capacity for academic success and positive social and emotional well- being.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • School-based license in one of the following areas: school counseling and/or school social work
  • Secondary (middle and high school) experience preferred
  • Strong facilitation, coaching, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in the use of technology
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of diversity
  • Knowledge of and experience with mediation and conflict resolution
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies and other district department procedures
  • A high level of organizational skills and initiative
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience and training in mental health support within a learning or school environment

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The School Counselor - Mental Health Support position will work closely with the building administrative team to do the following:

  • Provide individual mental health counseling
  • Address bullying/harassment
  • Provide education (prevention and awareness via classes/presentation on topics such as anger/stress management, cyber safety, etc.)
  • Develop youth leadership and empowerment skills
  • Facilitate restorative justice and conflict resolution
  • Provide crisis assistance (i.e. family death)
  • Provide truancy intervention
  • Provide mental health resources
  • Liaison to/for community resources; next steps involving short term and/or long term therapy or intervention; advocacy
  • Provide small group mental health counseling (i.e. anger/stress management, girl/boy issues, self-esteem, grief, relationships, etc.)
  • Address mental health and mental illness
  • Address risky behaviors (i.e. alcohol/drug use)
  • Address depression and anxiety (i.e. suicide ideation)
  • Address abuse (i.e. physical, emotional, sexual)
  • Maintain and track documentation of mental health support for students
  • May provide some academic counseling duties and other duties specific to building needs.

The School Counselor - Mental Health Support position will also be required to be a member of the District Crisis Response Team and meet regularly with district level administration.

Requirements:

LMSW preferred

Salary:

$50-55,000 (commensurate upon credentials)
