Senior Director, Technology

Position Summary

The Office of Technology supports the vision for Camden City School District by ensuring that students and employees of the district have access to high quality technology and systems to drive student learning and employee productivity. The Senior Director, Technology will work closely with the School Business Administrator and other senior district officials to set the technology vision and strategy for the District and to ensure that staff and students receive outstanding technology support and services. The Senior Director will be responsible for overseeing two general work streams: first, management and oversight of all service level agreements, acquisition, and selection of inventory across the district. Second, the Senior Director will oversee technology implementation and literacy through professional development for central office and school-based staff.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Certification in at least one of the following areas preferred: CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional), CCVP (Cisco Certified Voice Professional), MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer), MCITP (Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional)
  • At least 7 years of previous work experience in a similar position, preferably working in settings that serve low-income students and communities
  • At least 2-3 years of significant project management experience in a role focused on general operations and/or technology
  • Strong quantitative analytical skills, including significant experience and familiarity with compiling and analyzing data to drive decision-making
  • Knowledge and experience integrating technology into classroom and district-wide curriculum.
  • A valid driver's license as well as current insurance and vehicle with valid registration
  • Required criminal history background check, physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

Core Responsibilities

Major responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Sets goals, vision, and strategy for technological infrastructure, integration, and implementation throughout the district; manages toward those goals and works closely with department staff to ensure team priorities are well-aligned with the vision for technology and the District's strategic plan
  • Produces and manages an annual IT plan and budget that are integrated into district-wide system planning and budgeting processes
  • Oversee technology asset management initiatives across the district to eliminate wasteful spending and improve efficiencies
  • Provides strategic oversight for district service level agreements and manages to agreed-upon performance levels for application availability, response time, network performance and customer satisfaction
  • Creates a structure that aligns IT initiatives with district priorities while balancing resource constraints (human and fiscal) to optimize IT investments across the district over a period of time
  • Oversees the selection, acquisition, development, installation, maintenance, and support of information technology for CCSD
  • Recommends and implements a rigorous process for standardization of technology equipment and end user devices, where appropriate, throughout the district; this includes developing a multi-year plan for increased use and dissemination of technology resources in schools and classrooms
  • Establishes a culture promoting the integration of technology throughout the district to manage data and support excellent instruction
  • Creates and oversees processes to manage and track instructional technology programs across schools. This includes selecting key programs and managing the pilot of these programs as well as ongoing professional development
  • Provides oversight and works with school-based staff and district senior leadership to assess strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities related to the District's technology pilot program(s)
  • Provides advice and counsel to the district's senior leadership team concerning IT issues and industry trends
  • Oversees the creation and implementation of technological professional development for all central office and school-based staff both software and hardware related
  • Evaluates and reflects upon professional practices, emerging technologies, and current research related to technology initiatives that support student learning
  • Provides hands-on management of department team members, including providing regular feedback, coaching and direct support to ensure all team members provide responsive, courteous, and high-quality customer service to schools, students, and other stakeholders
  • Supports projects and initiatives in other divisions and departments throughout CCSD on an as-needed basis
  • In coordination with the School Business Administrator, oversees the Erate program
  • Institutes data breach technology at all levels to ensure the District's data if protected outside criminal parties.
  • Oversees and provides an annual budget to the School Business Administrator for the Technology Department
  • Other duties as assigned by the School Business Administrator or designee

Terms of Employment

Twelve-month position. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment shall be in accordance with Board policy and applicable agreements.

Evaluation

Performance shall be evaluated annually in accordance with Board policy, administrative regulations, and district leadership procedures.

Minimum Starting Salary: $120,000.00

Maximum Starting Salary: $150,000.00

Residency Requirement

Under New Jersey's "New Jersey First Act" (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7), all employees of New Jersey public school districts must maintain bona fide New Jersey residency as a condition of employment. Candidates must already reside in New Jersey or establish residency within the required timeframe after hire. Current employees who were hired on or before September 1, 2011 are exempt from this requirement and may continue to reside outside the state. In limited circumstances, applicants may request a residency waiver through the state's Employee Residency Review Committee if they can demonstrate critical need or hardship; approval is not guaranteed.
