Under the general direction of the Principal Inspector or Supervisory Principal Inspector accomplishes the following duties:
A. Technical Administrion
On a continuing basis, ensures assigned organizions are properly and adequely organized, staffed and equipped; establishes and conducts adeque training programs; maintains record keeping systems; and facilities and ensures procedures meet all regulory requirements.
Chairs joint Federal Aviion Administrion (FAA) and industry meetings. Maintains regular contact with organizions assigned and coordines with top management officials. Requires or directs correction of any deficiencies/discrepancies and refuses or withdraws approval if they cannot be resolved.
Develops avionics program requirements through participion on maintenance review boards. Coordines minimum equipment list (MEL) approvals with the principal operions inspector. Takes enforcement action in instances of noncompliance with the MEL.
Conducts enforcement investigions and prepares final reports and recommendions on disposition. Performs or supervises the emergency suspension of certifices or cancellion of operions specificions. Conducts or directs the reexaminion of certificed airmen or recertificion of an operor or agency.
Conducts investigions of public complaints, congressional inquiries, and aircraft incidents and accidents. Provides verbal and/or written technical assistance to legal counsel, testifies court trials and formal hearings, and gives dispositions.
Coordines with geographic inspectors for the accomplishment of non-routine air carrier surveillance.
B. Certificion
Responsible for initial and ongoing certificion of air carriers, aircraft, airmen, and air agencies. Makes recommendions on the appointment of designees.
Evalues requests to opere under conditions not previously specified in the airworthiness portion of the operions specificions and approves/disapproves requests providing additional conditions and limitions as needed.
Provides guidance to the assigned air carrier in the development of required maintenance manuals and record keeping systems. Reviews and determines adequacy of manuals associed with the air carrier's airworthiness programs and revisions. Ensures manuals and revisions comply with regulory requirements, prescribe safe practices, and furnish clear and specific instructions governing airworthiness programs. Approves operions specificions and amendments.
Determines if the maintenance facilities being established or contract arrangements entered into by air carrier for the purpose of overhaul work, major repairs, alterions, and other maintenance are sisfactory. Reviews changes and negoties with air carrier management to resolve problems.
Determines if overhaul and inspection time limitions warrant revision.
Evalues an operor's proposed reliability programs for compliance with nional policies. Advises operor of deficiencies and required changes. Approves/disapproves reliability programs.
Determines if the air carrier's training program meets the requirements of 14 CFR, is compible with the airworthiness program, is properly organized and effectively conducted, and results in trained and competent personnel.
Directs or participes in flight evaluions to determine compliance with 14 CFR. Recommends changes th required prior to approval.
C. Surveillance
Directs the inspection and surveillance of the air carrier's continuous airworthiness program. Monitors all phases of the air carrier's airworthiness operion, including the maintenance, engineering, quality control, production control, training, and reliability programs.
Analyzes reports submitted by the air carrier to ensure compliance with airworthiness program and ensures the air carrier has an effective continuing analysis and surveillance program to meet the requirements of 14 CFR.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Medical Requirements for All Positions:
Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviion Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner, with or without a reasonable accommodion. The minimum medical requirements include the following requirements:
Have good distant vision in each eye and be able to read, without strain, printed merials the size of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses permitted);
Have the ability to hear the conversional voice (hearing aid permitted); and
Not have any physical condition th would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others th would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft.
In addition, applicants for positions th require participion in the operion of the aircraft must:
Possess a valid second-class medical certifice in accordance with FAA regulions; and

When the predominant work involves air carrier maintenance , applicants for Aviion Safety Inspector (Airworthiness) positions must meet all of the following requirements.
Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and systems of multi-engine aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds maximum certificed takeoff weight maintained under an airworthiness maintenance and inspection program.
Aircraft maintenance experience in a repair stion; air carrier or airline repair facility; military repair facility; or local, ste, or Federal governmental agency.
Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and aircraft systems with responsibility for certifying airworthiness.
Aircraft maintenance work experience within the last 3 years.
FAA Mechanic Certifice with airframe and power plant rings.
To qualify for this position you must demonstre in your applicion th you possess least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H, FG/GS-12 grade level as an Aviion Safety Inspector. Specialized experience is experience th has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. This experience must demonstre oversight of Part 121 air carrier operions, to include: 1) Evaluing maintenance or avionics activities of complex aviion organizions. 2) Evaluing program change proposals of complex aviion organizions.

Conducts investigions of public complaints, congressional inquiries, and aircraft incidents and accidents. Provides verbal and/or written technical assistance to legal counsel, testifies court trials and formal hearings, and gives dispositions.
Coordines with geographic inspectors for the accomplishment of non-routine air carrier surveillance.
B. Certificion
Responsible for initial and ongoing certificion of air carriers, aircraft, airmen, and air agencies. Makes recommendions on the appointment of designees.
Evalues requests to opere under conditions not previously specified in the airworthiness portion of the operions specificions and approves/disapproves requests providing additional conditions and limitions as needed.
Provides guidance to the assigned air carrier in the development of required maintenance manuals and record keeping systems. Reviews and determines adequacy of manuals associed with the air carrier's airworthiness programs and revisions. Ensures manuals and revisions comply with regulory requirements, prescribe safe practices, and furnish clear and specific instructions governing airworthiness programs. Approves operions specificions and amendments.
Determines if the maintenance facilities being established or contract arrangements entered into by air carrier for the purpose of overhaul work, major repairs, alterions, and other maintenance are sisfactory. Reviews changes and negoties with air carrier management to resolve problems.
Determines if overhaul and inspection time limitions warrant revision.
Evalues an operor's proposed reliability programs for compliance with nional policies. Advises operor of deficiencies and required changes. Approves/disapproves reliability programs.
Determines if the air carrier's training program meets the requirements of 14 CFR, is compible with the airworthiness program, is properly organized and effectively conducted, and results in trained and competent personnel.
Directs or participes in flight evaluions to determine compliance with 14 CFR. Recommends changes th required prior to approval.
C. Surveillance
Directs the inspection and surveillance of the air carrier's continuous airworthiness program. Monitors all phases of the air carrier's airworthiness operion, including the maintenance, engineering, quality control, production control, training, and reliability programs.
Analyzes reports submitted by the air carrier to ensure compliance with airworthiness program and ensures the air carrier has an effective continuing analysis and surveillance program to meet the requirements of 14 CFR.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Have the ability to hear the conversional voice (hearing aid permitted); and

Possess a valid second-class medical certifice in accordance with FAA regulions; and

When the predominant work involves air carrier maintenance , applicants for Aviion Safety Inspector (Airworthiness) positions must meet all of the following requirements.
Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and systems of multi-engine aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds maximum certificed takeoff weight maintained under an airworthiness maintenance and inspection program.
Aircraft maintenance experience in a repair stion; air carrier or airline repair facility; military repair facility; or local, ste, or Federal governmental agency.
Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and aircraft systems with responsibility for certifying airworthiness.
Aircraft maintenance work experience within the last 3 years.
FAA Mechanic Certifice with airframe and power plant rings.
To qualify for this position you must demonstre in your applicion th you possess least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H, FG/GS-12 grade level as an Aviion Safety Inspector. Specialized experience is experience th has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
