Bishop Mora Salesian High School, an all-boys college preparatory located in Boyle Heights, seeks an athletic director to lead a thriving, comprehensive athletic program. Eighty percent of Salesian students play at least one sport. The school sees athletics as an avenue to strengthen a student's Christian, Catholic, and Salesian values, physical and social-emotional health, and life skills. The athletic director should be prepared to develop and grow a department that fully supports the mission, vision, and philosophy of the school. The athletic director may also be asked to teach classes as part of the school's master schedule. Key responsibilities of the job include: Prepares a proposed annual budget for all sports for submission to the Principal. Ensures that all expenditures for the athletic programs are provided for in the approved budget and are processed according to established school regulations. Assists the Principal in hiring and assignment of coaches. Becomes familiar with and enforces all applicable CIF, CAA, CDR and league, and NCAA. policies and regulations. In-services all coaches on these policies and regulations with a view to ensuring their implementation in the school's athletic programs. Supervises and formally evaluates coaches in the various programs offered by the school. Ensures that athletes have undergone the required medical examinations before engaging in practice. Maintains a log of all athletic injuries and oversees the filing of appropriate insurance forms. Obtains the required parental consent forms and files them in the Athletic Director's office. Prepares and disseminates to teachers and administrators accurate team rosters and accurate team departure times. Seeks approval for athletes required to leave campus for a competition prior to seventh period. Designs proposed master schedules for all sports with input from the head coaches and submits these to the principal for approval. Ensures that all games scheduled with other schools are covered by valid contracts appropriately executed. Arranges for the renting of playing fields and courts as necessary. Arranges for the employment, payment and facilities for officials. Arranges for the safe and legal transportation of athletes to off-campus sports contests. Attends and supervises (and/or arranges for supervision at) all football and basketball games (home and away) and all other sports home games especially when a sizable crowd is present. Coordinates sports awards assemblies and banquets. Disseminates athletic news to the school community, social media, and the local press in a timely fashion. Oversees the locker room facilities, weight room, gymnasium, and athletic fields, seeking maintenance through the Plant Manager. Performs any other duties assigned by the Principal. Requirements Main Requirements: Master's degree preferred in Physical Education, Education, Kinesiology, or related field. Experience teaching children in 9-12th grade settings. Coaching and/or athletic administration experience on the high school level. Ability to organize, lead, and supervise school athletic programs effectively. Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education. Wage Range The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range.
