Position Summary

The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs serves as the chief student engagement officer for the Law School and Title IX Coordinator. Reporting directly to the Dean of the Law School, the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs provides dynamic leadership, strategic oversight, and operational direction for all student-facing services. This position is a senior-level administrative role responsible for advancing student success, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing the overall student experience.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support, Wellness & Crisis Management:

  • Provide confidential advising and counseling to law students navigating academic, personal, or professional challenges.
  • Triage student concerns and connect students with the Law School resources, including mental health, accessibility, and academic support services.
  • Serve as the primary contact for students of concern and manage crisis response within the Law School community.

Student Life, Services & Event Management:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute major law school events and ceremonies, including Convocation and graduation-related programming.
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and budget management for student organizations and student government associations.
  • Oversee and facilitate core student services, including parking, locker assignments, and other operational aspects of the student experience.
  • Develop and implement wellness initiatives, professional identity formation programs, and professionalism programming.

Policy Administration & Compliance:

  • Interpret, implement, and enforce the Law School Student Code of Conduct and Honor Code.
  • Ensure institutional compliance with ABA, Title IX, and Law School regulations.

Leadership & Administration:

  • Supervise student affairs staff, including managing the departmental budget and contributing to long-term strategic planning.
  • Collaborate closely with the Offices of Admissions, Career Services, and the Law Registrar to ensure a seamless and positive student experience.
  • Serve on key faculty and Law School committees, advocating for student needs and representing the Dean's Office.
  • May contribute to instructional or advising activities (e.g., student professional development programming or honors cohorts), as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school and required bar passage.
  • Preferred experience in student affairs, academic advising, or law school administration.
  • Supervisory Experience preferred: Demonstrated success supervising professional staff and managing departmental budgets.
