The Schools of Two Rivers Supervisory Union: Striving for Excellence, All Students, All Staff, Every Day.General Statement of JobThe K-6 Literacy Interventionist must be committed to and advocate for Two Rivers mission to provide all children with the skills and knowledge they need to be proficient speakers, listeners, readers, writers, and critical thinkers. Two Rivers has made a commitment to using a Structured Literacy approach to support students to become skilled readers. The K-6 Literacy Interventionist is responsible for supporting student achievement in Literacy with special attention to layered instruction at a strategic and intensive level in the areas of reading & literacy. The Interventionist provides individual and/or small group instruction that is highly explicit, scaffolded, cumulative, diagnostic and systematic to students who need additionally layered support to achieve academically. This position is also responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance.Primary Job DutiesThe K-6 Literacy Interventionist instructs reading groups consisting of elementary students who are identified as needing strategic and intensive instruction in the areas of reading & literacy while collaborating with classroom teachers.Provide evidence based intensive interventions using a structured literacy approach to an assigned caseload of students on a daily basis.Document and communicate the progress and intervention strategies used with students to classroom teachers, the teaching and learning director/coach, and principal and/or their designees.Maintain data on reading and literacy levels for eligible students individual intervention plans.Provide information to ensure individualized targeted evidence based intensive reading instruction for those students who meet federal guidelines.Collects data and maintains student records and provides documentation in a timely manner.Serves as an integral part of the schools data teams and works collaboratively to build intervention groups.Provides reading instruction related to literacy support for identified students.Provides data, planning, implementation, and monitoring support for students literacy intervention plans.Participates in literacy professional development.Performs other related tasks as assigned.Performance ResponsibilitiesProvide high quality instruction to individual students and small groups using district approved resourcesImplement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiencesContinually use data to inform instructional decisionsPrepare and submit instructional intervention plansProvide a structured, positive classroom experience that encourages students to think critically throughout the learning processMaintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures including progress monitoringEnsure that student growth is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area and/or program classificationEstablish and maintain cooperative and respectful working relationships with students, parents and other school personnelSatisfy professional obligations through efficient work habitsModel professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers and leadersCommunicate effectively and regularly, both orally and in writing with students and parentsCollaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environmentOther Skills and AbilitiesAbility to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the science of reading to instruction; ability to plan and implement lessons based on the recent research on the science of reading and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to work with staff, parents and children.Desired Qualifications:Experience coaching and collaborating with teachersFamiliarity and experience with the DIBELS 8 assessmentFamiliarity and experience with Fundations, Just Words and Heggerty ProgramsFamiliarity and experience with evidence-based frameworks for reading instruction to support both language comprehension and word level reading skillsFamiliarity and experience with diagnostic procedures for identifying reading and writing difficultiesExperience writing and teaching curriculum using backwards design and UDLExperience collaborating and problem solving with teachersMinimum RequirementsMasters Degree is preferred, a Bachelors Degree is requiredValid or eligible for Vermont Reading Specialist or K-6 Classroom Teacher License5 years of teaching experience at the elementary levelDemonstrated lifelong learner with a collaborative spirit
