Primary Purpose:

Assist the campus Principal in the overall administration of the instructional program and campus operations. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Master's degree from an accredited university
  • Texas Teacher Certificate
  • Certification in Special Education (required for Academic and Behavior Center campuses)
  • Texas Mid-Management or other appropriate Texas certificate
  • Certificate of Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of school administrative operations
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with a specified behavior management system
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally as well as written expression
  • Ability to learn and utilize specialized therapeutic restraint techniques to control student behavior, when appropriate
  • General knowledge of computer systems and software applications
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Experience:

  • Three years teaching experience
  • Experience working with students with special needs and students in at-risk situation

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Management

  • Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs.
  • Provide appropriate time, resources, and materials to support staff in accomplishing educational goals.
  • Assist Principal in developing, maintaining, and using appropriate information systems and records necessary to measure campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
  • Facilitate the implementation and use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
  • Process changes and adjustments in student schedules.
Personnel Management
  • Assist Principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff; serve as a second appraiser in the Professional Development and Appraisal System (PDAS).
  • Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with campus Principal and supervise teachers, paraprofessionals and clerical personnel and others when assigned.
  • Supervise operations in the absence of the campus Principal.
  • Treat all staff with dignity, integrity and respect.
School/Organizational Climate
  • Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
  • Employ effective interpersonal skills.
Organizational Improvement
  • Participate in collaborative processes to develop campus improvement plans for staff, parents and community members.
  • Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
  • Assist in requisition of supplies, textbooks, and equipment: conduct inventories; maintain records; and verify receipts for such material.
  • Cooperate in safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
  • Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
  • Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with home district attendance personnel on investigative follow-up actions when requested.
  • Work with faculty in compiling annual instructional-related requests for materials and supplies.
  • Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules and the department.
Student Management
  • Coordinate and provide adequate supervision of students.
  • Assist in monitoring special education services.
  • Provide input to develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior.
  • Conduct conferences with parents, students and teachers concerning school and student issues as requested by the principal.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  • Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the campus.
  • Conduct physical student searches.
Professional Growth and Development School/Community
  • Take the initiative to develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Articulate the campus goals and objectives and solicit support in accomplishing goals/objectives.
  • Demonstrate awareness of client school districts' needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
