Job Qualifications: School Principal Certification

Specific Duties:
1. Communicate directly with the superintendent for the organization, administration, and supervision within the school.
2. Evaluate all teachers, school counselors, media specialists, and classified employees in the building.
3. Responsible for the health and welfare of students, teachers, and classified personnel.
4. Responsible for identifying storm safe zones within the building and conducting fire drills, earthquake drills, tornado drills, lockdown drills, and shelter in place drills as required by Kentucky state law.
5. Work cooperatively with teachers, supervisor of instruction, and administrative staff.
6. Establish a school climate that supports positive behaviors and order in the school building.
7. Create and develop general school wide rules and procedures.
8. Responsible for student supervision in the cafeteria.
9. Review teachers’ lesson plans, unit plans, and other instructional requirements to ensure that the Kentucky State Standards are being taught.
10. Keep informed on rules, policies, and regulations of the board of education.
11. Responsible for the internal accounts of the school and for making a monthly and yearly financial report to the superintendent.
12. Work with teachers and guidance counselors concerning classification, promotion, and retention of students within the school.
13. Responsible for all athletics in the school.
14. Ensure that permanent scholastic and health records are kept on each student while preserving the right to privacy and confidentiality.
15. Serve as chairman of the Admissions and Release Committee (ARC) as needed.
16. Serve as chairman of the School Based Decision-Making Council (SBDM).
17. Establish and maintain relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for the overall school objectives.
18. Promote school activities as well as accomplishments through communication with stakeholders, including the use of social media and other digital means.
19. Supervise all academic and non-academic activities placed under their jurisdiction.
20. Keep the superintendent informed of the school’s activities.
21. Responsible for developing, revising, and carrying out the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP).
22. Responsible for being an instructional leader of the school. This includes being an active learner, guiding, and implementing professional learning.
23. Perform other duties assigned by the superintendent.
