Position: Assistant Middle School Principal Building: West Perry Middle School
Reports to: Middle School Principal Assignment: 210 days
Job Summary: Assist the principal in directing the overall operation of the middle school. Collaborate with the principal to ensure continuous improvement of educational programs for the students. Work with the principal to provide adequate communications between and among students, families and staff. Work environment is challenging and requires quick and accurate decisions. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
Qualifications: Pennsylvania Department of Education certification as secondary principal. Master’s Degree (plus fifteen hours beyond). At least five (5) years of successful teaching with some administrative equivalent experience preferred.
POSITION FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The function of the position is to manage certain aspects of the organization as described in this document and as supervised by the middle school principal. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following duties:
1. Assume designated share of supervision and formal performance evaluation for selected members of the professional and support staff.
2. Provide assistance with:
a. maintaining an effective learning climate in the middle school.
b. monitoring the curriculum and supervising instruction.
c. selecting and assigning professional and support staff.
d. evaluating middle school programs and providing information on the same to the principal.
e. creating student and staff schedules.
f. supervising student and staff activities both during and beyond the designated instructional day.
g. preparing the annual budget.
h. preparing student reports for distribution including report cards, transcripts and student schedules.
i. monitoring instructional support and student assistance processes.
j. chairing or being a member of school committees.
3. Work with students, parents, and staff to provide for the implementation and enforcement of school discipline policies and procedures.
4. Recommend revisions, additions and improvements to discipline policies and procedures.
5. Notify the principal of safety and health issues.
6. Share in serving as chairperson for MDE and IEP meetings.
7. Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents and community.
8. Stay current with contemporary educational thought and probable trends.
9. Attend, as needed, school or evening meetings, such as PTO, community groups, school board meetings, athletic events, student activities, etc.
10. Perform other assigned duties as required by the Superintendent.
GENERAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Must be able to do repetitive actions including grasping, pushing/pulling, fine-motor manipulation, writing or printing and twisting/turning frequently.
Must be able to adhere to daily time schedule.
Must be able to hear (40 decibel loss maximum).
Must be able to communicate verbally.
Must have vision requirements of near acuity of 20 inches or fewer and far acuity of 20 feet or more with depth perception, accommodation, and field of vision.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
Encompasses entire building and grounds. Center of operation is the building office which is well-ventilated and well-lighted.

Computer/printer, TV/DVD, photocopier, LCD Projector, scanner.
