TITLE: Speech-Language Pathologist - Multiple Openings District Wide

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Portland Public Schools is seeking licensed Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) to provide speech and language services for K-12 students at schools within the Portland Public School District. The SLP will join a passionate, multidisciplinary team of teachers, ed-techs, social workers, occupational therapists and physical therapists.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assesses all areas of speech and language development, using a variety of tools and data collection methods
  • Completes required evaluation reports and IEPs for all students on their assigned caseload
  • Cites data for all discussions of student progress, such as in present levels, IEP goals, or evaluation reports
  • Delivers direct instruction to all students on their assigned caseload, grouping students to the extent appropriate; provides consultation as required by student IEPs
  • Provides case management for students on their caseload who are identified under the speech/language disability category
  • Develops goals and Individualized Education Plans consistent with state/federal laws and regulations
  • Implement programs and services in the least restrictive environment appropriate for the student
  • Maintains thorough documentation of speech-language therapy sessions, including in our scheduling software, and for MaineCare billing
  • Participates in Child Find screenings (e.g. new referrals, transfer record reviews/kindergarten screening)
  • Supports students and staff with the integrated use of AAC devices, when applicable
  • SLPs assigned to a school that has a specialized program, such as Functional Life Skills (FLS), typically have those students as part of their caseload

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience working within the public school environment
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization ( more info ).
  • Either or both of the following:
    • Maine State Certification 293 (Speech and Hearing Clinician, K-12) ( more info )
    • Maine State Speech Pathologist License ( more info )
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:

  • Schedule: School Year, Full Time (1.0 FTE)
  • Assignment: Permanent
  • Reports to: Senior Director of Special Education
  • Contract: Part of PEA union ( see 2025-2028 CBA here )
  • Salary: Based on education and experience, as outlined in CBA
