POSITION SUMMARY: This position is designed as a three-year internship program. The position provides an opportunity for passionate, aspiring leaders to develop skills and knowledge related to a school based administrative leadership role in Calvert County. This position assists the Principal and Assistant Principal in managing the day-to-day operations of the school including communicating with all stakeholders, participating in the school improvement process, facilitating professional development, managing student discipline, promoting a positive school climate, and representing the school in the community. It is expected that the successful candidate aspires and works toward an administrative leadership position.

- A minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience.
- Experience with multiple schools and/or levels preferred.

- Understanding of the school improvement process in order to determine root causes, annual goals, classroom strategies, and measurements of success.
- Knowledge and ability in organizing whole school programs such as testing, PBIS, and special education.
- Understanding of Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching.
- Knowledge of Maryland College and Career Ready Standards.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and respond effectively to the expectations for this position.
- Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures and negotiated agreements for Calvert County Public Schools.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle insurance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES :
- Complies with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Complies with administrative policies and procedures and current negotiated agreements for Calvert County Public Schools.
- Uses effective problem-solving strategies while incorporating sound judgement and strong communication skills.
- Shares with school administrators the responsibility for promoting student achievement and protecting the health and welfare of students.
- Collaborates with staff and parents to identify and implement appropriate strategies to improve students’ challenging behaviors and instructional needs.
- Resolves discipline problems in a fair and just manner and maintains records of any disciplinary action taken.
- Participates in the development of positive school culture and working with students.
- Develops positive relationships with parents, guardians and community to promote improved student outcomes and to protect the health and well-being of students.
- Plans and implements professional development in conjunction with school-based administrators and supervisors.
- Communicates regularly with parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators as it relates to student and teacher success.
- Participates in school improvement efforts, facilitates sub-committees, attends department meetings and professional learning communities (PLC) meetings, and conducts classroom walk-throughs with the school administration.
- Provides peer coaching as appropriate to teachers and support staff on instructional practice to improve student achievement.
- Facilitates the Student Services Team (SST) and 504 processes, School Testing Program, and Special Education in compliance with state and federal mandates with support from school administrators.
- Administers assigned extracurricular programs of the school and responds to student-initiated requests for specific new extracurricular clubs, activities, and programs.
- Develops an annual professional learning plan and aligns individual performance goals to the school-based administration’s focus areas and school improvement plan.
- Learns critical aspects of administration including budget, scheduling, employee contracts, crisis planning, and observations/evaluations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.
UNUSUAL DEMANDS : May be subject to flexible hours. May be required to work at two schools.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten (10) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools salary schedule for teachers. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.
EVALUATION : Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.
