DUTIES:Other duties may be assigned
- Implements the high school model guidance curriculum
- Guides and counsel groups and individual students through the development of educational and career plans
- Counsels small groups and individual students
- Consults with teachers, staff, and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of students
- Refers students with severe problems to appropriate community resources in consultation with their parents, the high school administrator and school-based social worker
- Participates in, coordinates, or conducts activities in the classroom in conjunction with administrators and teachers which contribute to the effective operation of the school
- Guides groups, individual students, and parents in the use of test results and information for education and career planning
- Responds to crisis situations as needed and when appropriate
- Evaluates and revises the building guidance program
- Administers assessments as part of the system support program component and per the districts assessment manual ASVAB, PSAT, PreACT, ACT, WORKKEYS, EOC, etc
- Participates in student orientation programs, award programs, and other parent informational meetings
- Conferences for Childrens Division meetings, test interpretations with parents, and 504 meetings for students, sometimes occurring before and after school hours
- Assists with scheduling where applicable

Coursework/experience related to High School preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES: Missouri School Counselor Certification required. Missouri School Psychological Examiner Certification required where applicable. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read analyze and interpret general counseling periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. To write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. OTHER SKILLS: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to use appropriate language and accompanying techniques with adolescents on one to one bases as well as in groups. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
