CONSULTATION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide consultation concerning curriculum and instructional methods to special educators who are serving exceptional students.
  • Provide consultation with teachers regarding how the students' unique needs and the consequent specialized instruction are integrated into the education curriculum.
  • Consult with teachers regarding the application of appropriate and specific teaching strategies, as well as the ability to interface appropriate teaching strategies within the general curriculum.
  • Provide assistance to special education teachers in aligning lesson plans with the Individual Education Plan for each student.

CASE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather, interpret and communicate information obtained from the assessment process in a tactful and professional manner.
  • Maintain and be responsible for appropriate records and assessment reports within specified timelines for students assigned and in the special education office.
  • Assist in the writing and implementation of Individual Education Plans as it relates to maximizing progress on the student's special education goals and objectives
  • Assist teachers in translating Individual Education Plan goals and objectives into daily classroom activities.
  • Produce technically correct Individual Education Plans goals and objectives

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Education, the Assistant Superintendent(s), and the Superintendent of Schools.

ASSESSMENT RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Evaluation Requirements:
  • Evaluations completed within the state timelines.
  • Report Writing Requirements:
  • Report written within 20 days of assessment.
  • Report submitted to case manager and/or school administrator at least 10 days prior to Eligibility Committee Meeting.
  • Report should include student strengths and weaknesses, present levels of educational performance, and must clearly link assessment results to classroom interventions and/or goals and objectives.

SALARY:

  • Daily rate based on Raleigh County Teacher Salary schedule (daily rate for 215 day employment term) plus supplemental pay of $250 per montH

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • WV Certified School Psychologist
  • Demonstrated competencies in IDEA 2004 and WVBE Policy 2419
  • Experience conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments, Threat Assessments, Intelligence Assessments, Behavior Rating Scales, and other assessments based on individual student needs
  • Knowledge of Manifestation Determination procedures
  • Identification of students eligible for special education and/or related services
  • Knowledge of MTSS and SAT processes
  • Development of Positive Behavior Intervention Support Plans
  • Collaboration with Special Education Specialists, Teachers, Support Staff, and Parents
  • Knowledge of the process for developing individualized education programs (IEPs) consistent with WVBE Policy 2419 policies and guidelines
  • Knowledge and experience in case management for students with disabilities
  • Data collection and analysis skills used to provide information at the federal, state, and district levels
  • Knowledge of and ability to provide training across a broad range of topics, including, but not limited to: IEP development, behavior/cognitive strategies, eligibility, and other special education-specific topics
  • Individual and group therapy experience
  • Collaboration between home, school, and agencies regarding school-based services for students
  • Technical assistance and/or training provided to teachers/classrooms regarding academic and behavioral issues
  • Assessment experience across exceptionalities outlined in WVBE Policy 2419
  • Experience in report writing that links assessment results to classroom interventions
  • Experience in Autism evaluations and eligibility determination
  • Ability to guide teams in decision-making across a variety of meetings, including SAT, IEP, eligibility, and other student-specific meetings based on individual student needs
