QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. An advanced degree, Masters or higher, from an accredited institution with emphasis in educational leadership, school administration, curriculum or other related field.
  2. Valid state certificate to practice as a school principal, or completion of a school administrator’s continuing education requirement.
  3. Valid Michigan teaching certificate.
  4. Successful teaching and administrative experience preferred.
  5. Must possess exceptional organization, leadership, supervisory skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership that results in teamwork and collaborative working relationships.
  7. Working knowledge of school law, teacher evaluations, professional learning communities and teacher mentoring/coaching.
  8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: High School Principal and Superintendent

SUPERVISES:

All staff assigned to the high school, including support personnel while functioning in the high school, as directed by the high school principal.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Assists the high school principal in promoting an environment within the high school which enhances the educational well-being of each student; works with students and staff to make the high school attractive, pleasant and productive places in which to learn and work. Supports the implementation of Petoskey’s Full Value Agreement.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Help maintain a culture of caring, follow/support the Full Value Agreement, and provide a safe, learning environment.
  2. Assumes responsibility for administering the high school in the absence of the principal.
  3. Assumes major responsibility for maintaining student discipline at the high school.
  4. Administers student attendance procedures; works with attendance secretary and counselors on matters involving investigative follow-up concerning attendance problems.
  5. Serves as a high school administrative representative to parent, faculty and student groups as directed, interpreting the school program, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  6. Assists in coordinating and supervising extra-curricular activities.
  7. Works with the principal and staff in evaluating and improving the high school an d related programs
  8. Assists the high school principal in the preparation of the master class schedule and individual student schedules.
  9. Assists the high school principal in the preparation and administration of the building budget.
  10. Assumes responsibility for providing mentors to new staff.
  11. Assumes responsibility for substitute teacher assignments, including the orientation of substitute teachers.
  12. Recommends and helps the high school principal to coordinate staff development programs including professional learning community endeavors.
  13. Assists the high school principal in the supervision and evaluation of staff.
  14. Maintains an active role in professional organizations and activities to keep abreast of educational trends, developments and research.
  15. Attends meetings of the board of education and prepares such reports as the Superintendent of Schools may direct.
  16. Attends building and district Teaching and Learning Council (school improvement) meetings.
  17. Learns and uses emerging technologies to increase productivity, develop leadership, and expand staff use of technology.
  18. Helps coordinate and lead procedures regarding school safety.
  19. Performs other related duties that may be assigned by the High School Principal and/or Superintendent of Schools.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

205 Work Days, personal business days and personal illness days as indicated in the employment contract. Salary to be set by the Board of Education.

Terms subject to change in accordance with Board of Education approval.

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated annually by the high school principal in accordance with Board of Education Policy regarding the evaluation of professional staff.
