POSITION TITLE: Counselor - High School

QUALIFICATION:

  • B.S. Degree minimum with certification in Guidance and Counseling.
  • Skilled in applicable computer applications.

REPORT TO:

  • Principal, Director or designated supervisor

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate an annual local school guidance and counseling plan in accordance with standards set forth in the State plan and commensurate with the local system plan.
  • Provide individual and group counseling and guidance.
  • Provide orientation for new students, parents/guardians and faculty.
  • Consult with parents/guardians, teachers and staff about the special needs of students and make appropriate referrals.
  • Provide appropriate appraisal services to assist teachers, parents/guardians and students.
  • Coordinate and administer state and local tests, and analyze and interpret test results to provide information about educational, vocational and personal/social needs.
  • Provide Principal with data analysis and report of test results.
  • Assist with placement and follow-up services for students.
  • Assist students in selecting programs of study to enhance career planning.
  • Provide information and resource services for students, parents/guardians and faculty.
  • Assist students in building self-esteem and development of decision-making, problem solving and positive human relations skills.
  • Plan with teachers, principal, parents/guardians and students steps for modifying student behavior.
  • Utilize community resources in addressing the needs of students.
  • Provide data concerning students' needs to determine curricula development.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and reports.
  • Develop a personal professional growth plan and demonstrate professional ethics and leadership.
  • Exhibit positive human relations skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Comply with local, state and federal policies, regulations and laws affecting areas of responsibility as well as the American School Counselor Association Code of Ethics.
  • Shall perform this and other position related duties as assigned by the principal and or designated supervisor.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student records.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Salary and work year to be according to the current applicable salary schedule.

EVALUATION:

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
