Speech and Language Pathologist
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Special Education Coordinator, Principals
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The speech and language pathologist is responsible for the evaluation of students suspected of having a disorder of speech, expressive language or receptive language as described in Montana Special Education guidelines.
For students who qualify as having a speech or language impairment, the speech and language pathologist is responsible for the services needed to properly serve the child.
Specific tasks include:
Functions as a staff member with duties and responsibilities congruent with other staff at Eureka public school in serving children with handicaps with speech or language.
Using best practices to provide remedial speech and language services to students to meet the requirements of their Individualized Educational Program (IEP).
Scheduling services as defined in the childs IEP.
Testing or assessing students to screen or identify students with handicaps as outlined in Montana State Standards.
Conducting Evaluation Report meetings as defined in state statutes.
Conducting Individualized Education Placement (IEP) meetings as defined in state statutes.
When appropriate, supervises paraprofessionals working with students identified in the speech and language caseload.
Contributes to the team of special education staff whenever necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Montana credentials or license authorizing service in grade levels and areas assigned.
Current certification as a Speech and Language Therapist as described in Montana State Accreditation Standards.
