POSITION : SCHOOL COUNSELOR- HIGH SCHOOL
RESPONSIBLE TO : PRINCIPAL/DIRECTOR OF PUPIL SERVICES

JOB GOAL: School counselors provide all students equitable access to a comprehensive
school counseling program that reduces barriers to student success by focusing on academic, career, and social-emotional needs. Through collaboration with all stakeholders including families, staff and community, while using a strength-based perspective; students will be able to reach their full potential, succeed within the classroom, and become productive citizens in the 21 st century.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Master’s degree in School Counseling
- Appropriate State of Ohio school counselor license
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of
Education may find appropriate
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and implement a school counseling program in accordance with District policies and administrative guidelines, Operating Standards for Ohio Schools, and the provisions of State and Federal law.
- Collect, analyze, present, and utilize data from a variety of sources to plan, implement, and continually improve my practice.
- Provide individual and small group counseling to meet the academic, college/career,and social/emotional development needs of students.
- Conduct large group and classroom guidance sessions focusing on study skills, learning strategies, conflict resolution, and to meet the academic, college/career, and social/emotional development needs of students.
- Engage in collaborative planning with administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community to promote a comprehensive school counseling program plan.
- Engage parents and community members in the educational process and in the support of student learning, achievement, and overall well-being.
- Plan and deliver effective comprehensive counseling, activities and/or experiences in collaboration with staff to support students’ academic progress and goals and make adjustments as needed.
- Implement all components of a comprehensive school counseling program and frequently reflect on future program development.
- Consult with staff and families regarding student referrals, intervention strategies, student progress, school programs, and related issues.
- Serve as a role model for students on how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings by demonstrating professionalism, modeling ethics, and seeking continuous professional learning.
- Instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
- Keep current and knowledgeable on educational issues, school counseling, anddistrict-related matters.
- The school counselor adheres to American School Counselor Association and other relevant ethical standards for school counselors and all relevant federal, state and local codes and policies. The counselor also helps colleagues access and interpret codes and policies and understand implications.
- Directly support and/or facilitate MTSS by means of academic and behavioral intervention through both PBIS, SEL and Academic intervention teams.
- Perform other job functions related to the specialist's role as assigned.

EVALUATION : Performance of the counselor’s responsibilities will be evaluated by the
building principal and director of pupil services.
