Job Summary
Provides specialized instruction services to students who meet educational eligibility criteria for Special Education services under a Speech and/or Language Impairment.
Major Responsibilities, Duties and Critical Tasks
Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in individual education plans (IEP).
Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services.
Conduct evaluations to assess students with speech or language disorders and conditions to determine eligibility for services within the required timelines.
Develop clinical management strategies or procedures and diagnostic statements by interpreting observations or data.
Participate in the admission, review, and dismissal committee to assist in interpretation of evaluation data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with communication disorders or conditions according to district procedures.
Lead admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) meetings for students with communication disorders or conditions according to district procedures.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students.
Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals and needs of the students.
Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of speech-language pathology services and make changes based on the findings.
Complies with policies established by federal and state law, state board of education rule, and the local board of trustees.
Keeps informed about new state and federal guidelines and policies.
Completes and submits requested reports, evaluation logs, surveys, etc. To the special education coordinator by the specified due date.
Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
Improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.
Perform duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the tea code of ethics for educators.
Maintains documentation of the time and effort spent towards supporting the program.
Provide professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and understand communication deficits in students.
Document provision of services in district data management program.
Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree.
At least two years of experience in the speech pathology field.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with charter school.
Required Certifications/Licenses
Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR).
American speech-language-hearing association (ASHA) certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP).
