Elementary Speech and Language Pathologist

Duties

The Speech-Language Pathologist evaluates and treats students with speech, language, voice, fluency, and communication disorders that impact educational performance. The SLP collaborates with teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to support students' communication needs, helping them access the curriculum and develop effective communication skills.

Some of the job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assess students' speech and language abilities using standardized assessments, classroom observations, and parent/teacher input.
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with speech-language impairments.
• Provide direct and indirect speech-language therapy services in individual or group settings.
• Monitor student progress and document therapy outcomes in compliance.
• Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Collaborate with regular and special education teachers to support classroom communication strategies.
• Educate school staff and families on speech-language development and strategies to support students.
• Maintain accurate records and submit required documentation in a timely manner.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited program
• Professional Educator License (PEL) with a speech-language pathologist endorsement from the Illinois State Board of Education
• license from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
• pass the required state tests and complete supervised professional experience
