The role ensures a high-quality education for all students through effective curriculum development, instructional practices, professional development, and data-driven decision-making.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesAssists the Superintendent of Schools in the oversight of district staff as it pertains to curriculum and instruction.Essential FunctionsAdheres to the policies and related directives of the Johnston Public Schools;Promotes the attainment of the Districts Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan;Assists the Superintendent in directing the administration and coordination of the school departments educational programs;Assists in the preparation and administration of the budget;Assists in planning for the maintenance and expansion of all school facilities;Attends School Committee meetings and prepares such reports for the Committee as the Superintendent may request;Supervises, evaluates, and directs the work of principals and all supervisory personnel;Develops and manages the Consolidated Resource Plan (CRP) for the district;Researches grant opportunities, writes grants, and oversees the writing of grants as needed. Acts as the clearing house for all grants;Serves upon assignments by the Superintendent as a resource person to all supervisors and directors in the school system;Establishes a program for the ongoing evaluation of instruction and curriculum assessment;Interprets the present curriculum and proposed curriculum changes to the School Committee, the administration, the staff, and the general public in developing and implementing the general philosophy and goals of the total school curriculum;Provides leadership in working with principals and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating grade levels and departmental meetings in order to effect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the school system;Oversees a district-wide professional development plan and program. Coordinates all formal efforts of the professional staff in projects of curriculum improvement;Coordinates the selection of textbooks and instructional materials for the school system through the use of faculty committees;Assumes responsibility for developing curriculum for any new course mandated by the legislature or School Committee;Assumes responsibility for reviewing, evaluating, and reporting results of the system-wide and state testing programs, and for other evaluative measures used by the schools;Maintains liaison and active participation with educational leaders in curriculum, instruction, and assessment at state, regional, and national levels;Coordinates development of districts strategic plan. Provides assistance to individual schools in planning and implementing school strategic plans. Coordinates district and school efforts in strategic planning;Required Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general education periodicals, professional journals, test data, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public;Ability to calculate figures and amounts;Ability to utilize current technology for instruction, communication, data analysis, and access to research;Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables;Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and school committee policies.Education and ExperienceMasters Degree in Public School Administration and/or District Level Administrator PK-12 required, and a CAGS or Doctorate preferred.Advanced graduate work in education in the areas of curriculum development, supervision, and/or instructional growth.Must hold a valid Rhode Island Department of Education Superintendent of Schools Certification.Physical RequirementsProlonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at a time.Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the schools and other facilities as needed.Occasional evening or weekend events to support family engagement or professional development.Other Duties The activities, duties or responsibilities contained in this job description is not a comprehensive listing that are required of the employee.
