Assess the needs of students with speech or language disorders and match their needs with programs available through the educational system.
Meet with students regularly according to the treatment program schedule, evaluate, and maintain records of students' progress.
Report progress to administrators, teachers, and special education teams and meet with them regularly to discuss their evaluations of students' skills in class performance and social interaction.
Report progress to guardians and meet with them regularly; suggest activities guardians can do with their child to assist and supplement the student's speech therapy program.
Repeat evaluations on a regular basis to measure progress according to professional guidelines.
Talk with students to determine their feelings about the program and their progress or any frustrations they may feel about the therapy.
Establish and implement small group management structure and rules that ensure academic engagement and the physical and mental safety of all students.
Ensure safety and security standards for children, staff, and visitors of the school; supervise all students throughout school grounds and on educational trips as necessary.
Maintain required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
Maintain knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in speech-language pathology.
Recognize and support diversity and equity in support of school and district initiatives.
Maintain an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and participative attitude on the part of all staff and students; celebrate the achievements and successes of students.
Participate in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars as required.
Attend work as scheduled and arrive in a timely manner unless a qualified absence has been approved as described in the collective bargaining agreement.
Perform additional related duties within the scope of this position.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in a related subject area; appropriate state license or certification; Speech Language Pathologist Endorsement are required.
At least two years of speech pathology work experience in a school setting is preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to ensure that students, faculty members, and guardians understand the program and the degree of progress being made.
Thorough understanding of speech/language development and how it relates to academic instruction.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
