Compensation: $56,162 - $111,280

Wethersfield Public Schools seeks a dynamic and highly qualified professional to serve in a dual role as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ToD) . This district-wide position provides direct and consultative services to students from birth through age 21 who have speech, language, and/or hearing needs.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in both fields and a passion for supporting students with hearing loss in developing communication, language, and academic success in a variety of educational settings. The position also serves as a key resource to school staff in the implementation of programs for oral communication, speech improvement, and specialized instruction for students with hearing impairments.
Duties of the position include the following:
Speech-Language Pathologist
- Identify children with speech, developmental language, and/or hearing impairments through observation, screening, evaluation, and referrals.
- Evaluate the nature and severity of deficits using formal and informal assessments; provide diagnosis and prognosis for improvement.
- Develop and implement individualized therapy programs targeting articulation, fluency, receptive and expressive language, and voice using scientifically based instructional methods.
- Participate in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to integrate therapy into students daily activities.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of evaluations, therapy sessions, and progress.
- Provide individualized or small-group instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, utilizing appropriate communication modes (e.g., American Sign Language, spoken language, cued speech, total communication).
- Adapt and modify curriculum materials to ensure accessibility in alignment with Connecticut Core Standards.
- Support students in developing self-advocacy and communication strategies in academic and community settings.
- Coordinate and monitor the use of assistive technology; arrange consultations, evaluations, and presentations as needed.
- Serve as a liaison among parents, teachers, specialists, and community agencies to support student success.
- Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology and/or Deaf Education.
- Connecticut State Certification or eligibility for certification:
- 061 Speech-Language Pathologist
- 057 Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Experience serving students from birth through age 21 in both SLP and ToD roles.
- Familiarity with IDEA, Section 504, and Connecticut Core Standards.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or other communication modalities for students with hearing loss.
- Knowledge and experience in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA Practices)
