JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Superintendent serves as a key member of the
Superintendent's team and provides direct supervision, support,
and evaluation to all building principals, assistant principals, and
directors of curriculum. This leader is responsible for ensuring that
all schools operate with strong instructional leadership, aligned
curriculum, and a focus on high levels of student achievement.
The Assistant Superintendent will foster a culture of
accountability, professional growth, innovation, and equity across
the district.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide direct supervision, mentoring, and evaluation of all building principals and assistant principals in alignment with district and state standards.
Oversee the implementation of district initiatives, instructional priorities, and improvement plans at the building level.
Facilitate regular principal meetings to build leadership capacity, share best practices, and address challenges.
Analyze school performance data to guide leadership coaching, intervention planning, and resource allocation.
Assist with the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of building administrators in collaboration with Human Resources.
Support principals in implementing effective teacher evaluation, supervision, and coaching practices.
Serve as a liaison between district administration and building leaders to ensure clear communication and aligned decision-making.
Respond to urgent school-based issues, including student safety, personnel concerns, and crisis situations.
Model effective leadership and maintain visibility in schools through regular visits and engagement with staff, students, and families.
Directly supervise and evaluate district Directors of Curriculum and Instruction.
Ensure all schools maintain a focus on student achievement, equality, and positive school culture.
Collaborate with the Directors of Curriculum and Instruction (K-6, 7-12) to ensure alignments of instructional programs, assessments, and professional learning.
Assist with the rollout and evaluation of instructional programs, resources, and interventions.
Ensure curriculum initiatives meet state standards and reflect evidence-based instructional practices.
Collaborate with Directors of Curriculum and Instruction to design and implement professional development for administrators and teachers.
Maintain visibility and engagement in schools to foster trust and ensure alignment of practice to district goals.
Facilitate the planning, administering and supervising of professional learning programs for staff including In-Service Days, Teacher Induction, Summer Opportunities, Act 80 Days, Act 48 Plan, Strategic Planning, Special Education and Technology initiatives.
Perform the personnel functions to include hiring, supervising, and evaluating performance and activities, establish goals, and provide direction for assigned personnel in planning and carrying out the approved programs, initiatives and district policies and ensure compliance with all contracts and federal and state regulations.
Serve as a point of contact for staff, students, community, and building concerns not resolved at the building level; organize documents and testimony, confer with outside experts and represent the District in any adversarial situation concerning staff, students or other community concerns.
Oversee the drafting and interpretation of school district policies as required to meet federal and state regulations; coordinate the District Policy Committee and present and explain policies at school board meetings, monitor and implement policies and reporting processes related to the collection, storage, dissemination, and destruction of student records and student information data management; serve as the District Right to Know Officer.
Develop and review proposals for modifications, additions, or deletions of programs and practices and submit recommendations to the Superintendent for Board approval; assess needs and recommend additions, deletions, and/or modifications to the existing programs and services available to students.
Coordinate the development, implementation, submission and oversight of the District Strategic Plan, including all required PDE and School Board Reports; prepare and present the District Report Card and other relevant assessment and data reports to the Board of Directors and the community along with recommendations for school improvement and changes.
Meet regularly with principals, supervisors, directors, department and grade level coordinators, data team leaders and professional staff to monitor and supervise implementation of district initiatives; direct and coordinate the selection of all instructional materials and resources.
Coordinate all curriculum, instruction, furniture, classroom materials, and staffing associated with new building projects, develop educational specifications, and coordinate staff input.
Perform such other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctorate in Educational Leadership, School Administration, or related field.
Pennsylvania Superintendent's Letter of Eligibility.
7+ years of successful teaching experience in K-12 public schools.
7+ years of experience as a successful building principal.
Demonstrated record of improving student achievement and school performance.
Proven ability to lead and develop school administrators.
Strong knowledge of instructional best practices, school operations, and state/federal education regulations.
Knowledge of federal and state regulations.
Experience with technology that is compatible with district-wide systems.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Experience in a large, diverse school district.
Background in strategic planning and data-driven decision-making.
Experience facilitating professional learning for school leaders.
Current Act 34, Act 151 and FBI Clearances as required by the laws of Pennsylvania; any other clearances that may be required by law.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find acceptable and reasonable.
