The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) primarily supports students with disabilities ages 3 to 22 within an out-of-district school placement. The SLP works collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, related service providers, job coaches, families, and relevant others to provide neurodiversity-affirming, individualized, and meaningful services to maximize access to academics and support communication. Assistive technology (AT), including augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), is considered as an integral part of programming for students. The position includes opportunities for participation in adult programming as well as consultation and support to other school teams and SLPs.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Master's Degree in Speech-Language PathologyLicensed or eligible for licensure through RI Department of HealthCertification or eligible for certification through RI Department of EducationInterest and/or experience with providing meaningful, neurodiversity-affirming services to individuals with complex communication needsInterest and/or experience with conducting speech and language evaluations, including augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) evaluationsInterest and/or experience with low-/light-, mid-, and high-tech AAC tools/systemsInterest and/or experience working with individuals with a variety of developmental and acquired disabilities (e.g., autism, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury)Interest and/or experience working with individuals with social-emotional needs and behavioral challengesInterest and/or experience working as part of a collaborative team to maximize success in the areas of communication, academics, vocational skills, and independent living skillsKnowledge of or willingness to learn state and federal special education eligibility criteriaKnowledge of or willingness to learn special education laws and regulations and willingness to implement the special education processKnowledge of or willingness to learn about individualized education programs (IEPs)Strong interpersonal skillsThe ability to work with educators and other team members, administrators, and parents to problem-solve challenging issuesDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1.Provide a neurodiversity-affirming, therapeutic environment that is safe, respectful, and effective for meeting students communication and social/emotional/behavioral needs;2.Design meaningful and motivating therapeutic learning opportunities that address communication, academic, vocational, and independent living needs;3.Work collaboratively and supportively with families, faculty, and administrators as well as outside treatment teams;4.Write and implement IEPs;5.Participate in IEP and eligibility meetings;6.Complete speech and language and AAC evaluations;7.Identify, program, and incorporate low-light-tech, mid-tech, and/or high-tech AT/AAC tools/systems to support individuals on caseload, as appropriate;8.Identify accommodations and modifications to maximize the success of individuals on caseload;9.Provide education, training, and coaching within the SLPs scope of practice to team members to maximize the success of individuals on caseload;10.Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences in communication and social interaction patterns and styles;11.Collect data for regulatory compliance reports; analyze data to inform instruction and support school and district decision making;12.Maintain student/client records and protect their confidentiality;13.Perform other tasks as may be assigned by the Executive Director of Educational Programs.Job Requirements________________________________________Citizenship, residency, or work visa requiredMaster's Degree in Speech Language PathologyLicensed or eligible for licensure through RI Department of HealthLicensed or eligible for licensure through RI Department of Education
