The full story:
Background
Alliance Animal Health is a U.S.-based veterinary services organization founded in 2016 that partners with independent veterinary practices to help them grow while preserving their local culture and medical autonomy. Headquartered in Rye Brook, New York, the company operates a joint-venture partnership model in which it provides business and operational support – such as recruiting, marketing, purchasing, and administrative services – so veterinarians can focus on delivering the best possible care to pets.
Through this model, Alliance Animal Health supports more than 250 partner practices across 29 states and employs thousands of team members. Helping clients enjoy “the benefits of ownership without the burden,” Alliance Animal Health offers clinics the resources and financial backing of a larger organization while allowing them to maintain their independence and unique identity.
Challenges
Talent acquisition is one of the core support functions Alliance Animal Health provides. However, in the veterinary space, finding qualified candidates quickly is challenging due to ongoing staffing shortages and rising demand for pet care. In fact, the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) estimates that the industry will experience a shortage of 55,000 veterinarians by 2030.
To continuously meet clients’ needs, Alliance Animal Health is always evaluating the efficacy of recruiting platforms and job boards. Posting a high volume of critical veterinary roles nationwide, including veterinarians, and associate veterinarians, and licensed veterinary technicians Alliance Animal Health sought a solution that would connect them with qualified, engaged candidates fast.
The organization not only shares job postings on behalf of its clients but also screens applicants and passes the best candidates along to them for interviewing, so reducing the time to find veterinary talent is critical.
Solutions
After researching veterinary-specific job boards to bring into its talent acquisition toolbox, Alliance Animal Health decided to partner with iHire, an industry-specific recruitment platform with 57 talent communities, including iHireVeterinary. Alliance Animal Health first pursued a pilot project with iHire, using its Job Slots (flexible, interchangeable postings) to attract veterinarians.
“We focus on hiring the most difficult-to-fill role, vets, and if a job board is effective in engaging and reducing the time to hire those positions, it’s worth continuing to use it,” said Joelle Craig, SVP Talent Acquisition, Alliance Animal Health. “Our pilot with iHire showed strong activity from veterinarians and great ROI, so we decided to dive deeper into its capabilities.”
As the partnership evolved, iHire enabled Alliance Animal Health to scale its recruiting efforts more efficiently by simplifying job distribution and increasing visibility among qualified candidates. This helped the team manage a high volume of roles while reducing manual effort and improving hiring efficiency.
iHire also supported a more proactive approach to sourcing, helping the team connect with qualified candidates earlier and strengthen overall recruiting performance.
Along with iHire’s job ad solutions and resume database, Alliance Animal Health strategically leverages its employer branding tools. Understanding the importance of branding in attracting the right candidates, Alliance Animal Health set up free iHire company profiles for itself and its clients. Its team has built out each profile. Alliance Animal Health is also enrolled in iHire’s Choice Employer program, which rewards companies for pledging to treat job seekers well with additional brand exposure, including display ads and featured postings.
Results
Since partnering with iHire, Alliance Animal Health has experienced an increase in qualified veterinary candidates, ensuring it meets clients’ hiring needs efficiently.
The platform has delivered consistently strong applicant quality and engagement, with conversion rates that outperform industry benchmarks. This has made iHire a top-performing national job board within Alliance Animal Health’s recruiting strategy.
For support staff roles, including veterinary assistants and receptionists, Alliance Animal Health was able to generate a strong volume of applicants while maintaining solid conversion through the hiring process. This balance of quantity and quality allowed the team to efficiently identify and place qualified candidates to meet ongoing staffing needs.
Across both veterinarian and support staff roles, the organization achieved consistent hiring success, with interview-to-hire conversion rates that outperformed industry expectations and supported steady hiring outcomes throughout the year.
To summarize Alliance Animal Health’s experience with iHire, Craig said, “iHire is an easy and efficient job board. The platform is very user-friendly and easy to navigate. I love that it allows you to build company profiles in a way that makes them feel authentic and personal to the candidates without extra charges to do so. I also love that this integrates with my ATS so easily. Super easy implementation as well, and my rep has been awesome.”
Notably, the iHire and Alliance Animal Health partnership has extended beyond online recruiting, with iHire sponsoring the company’s 2025 Veterinary Student Ambassador Summit. This event brought together passionate veterinary students from across the country to connect, learn, and lead while supporting Alliance Animal Health’s commitment to fostering professional development for future veterinarians.
Looking ahead, Alliance Animal Health plans to continue working with iHire to find qualified veterinarians and help clients thrive in the wake of talent shortages.
