School Curriculum Specialist Jobs in District of Columbia

A School Curriculum Specialist is an integral part of school administration who is tasked with developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum programs for schools. They work closely with teachers and education administrators to identify educational needs, set learning goals, and establish policies and standards. They also play a key role in ensuring that the curriculum aligns with mandated learning benchmarks and standards. The curriculum specialist will often lead teacher training sessions, review and select textbooks and other educational materials, and advise on instructional methodologies.

Important skills for a School Curriculum Specialist include strong communication, analytical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and a deep understanding of educational theories and practices. They should have a strong knowledge of curriculum design and development, pedagogical methods, and assessment techniques. A master's degree in education or a related field is typically required, and some states may require a specific certification in curriculum and instruction. Prior roles a person might have before becoming a School Curriculum Specialist could include Classroom Teacher, Department head, or Instructional Coordinator.
