Speech-Language Pathologist Jobs in Wichita Falls, TX

A Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in school administration is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and preventing speech, language, and communication disorders in students. They work closely with teachers, parents, and school psychologists to create individualized education programs (IEPs) to improve students' communication skills, academic performance, and social development. They also play a critical role in educating school staff about communication disorders and how to accommodate students with these issues. SLPs may also conduct research and advocate for policies that improve speech and language services in schools.

Important skills for this role include excellent communication, patience, empathy, problem-solving, and the ability to work with a diverse range of students. They should have a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and a certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Additionally, they should be licensed in the state where they practice. Prior to becoming an SLP, a person may have roles as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant, a Special Education Teacher, or a School Counselor.
