Purpose of Position:
This position will serve all schools to assist the school nurse when needs arise and will serve as the school nurse when the school nurse is absent. The nurse provides health services to all students in the schools and enforces programs within the schools that correspond with district policies.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Administer medication and treatment to students per physician's order and parent authorization
- Provide health counseling to students and assist them in decision making regarding their health and health behavior
- Develop, implement and evaluate school health program goals in cooperation with school personnel and community resources
- Participate in planning programs that eliminate or minimize health concerns of students which interfere with learning
- Participate in identification and reporting environmental health and safety hazards for students and staff
- Annually review student health records
- Maintain daily, monthly and yearly statistical information regarding health status of students and staff
- Identify health concerns of students through assessment, health history, review of records and prior screening
- Implement all screening programs mandated by Indiana Law and the School Town of Munster
- Communicate health concerns to parents and appropriate school staff
- Develop Individualized Health Plan (IHP) with specific goals and objectives based on student health needs
- Participate in (IEP) meetings
- Maintain a system for providing first aid and emergency care
- Assist students and parents in identifying available community health resources
- Facilitate the attainment of student health needs by providing support to students and their families
- Provide consultation and assistance to teachers in their planning, implementation and evaluation of health education units
- Provide in-service education opportunities for school staff on health related issues
- Collaborate with community agencies, health professionals and school staff to identify the health needs of students
- Assume responsibility for personal professional development
- Manage Daily Medicaid billing
- Create a medical concern list for teachers and the emergency binder
- Attend 504 meetings
- Teach breast self-exam class at the secondary level
- Prepare Incident/Accident reports
- Conduct Monthly AED inspections

Education and/or Experience:
Degree relative to earning LPN or RN status, LPN or RN license is required
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret medical documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with students, parents and staff.
Reasoning ability:
Ability to address the health concerns of students and staff that are presented.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Must be proficient in the use of computers for various office applications.
Terms of Employment:
185 days.
Wage rate: Starting at $30.00
