The Dean of Students plays a critical role in fostering a positive, achievement-oriented school culture. The role centers on ensuring the academic performance, behavior, and overall well-being of students. As a visible and engaged presence in the school, the Dean of Students supports teachers, students, and families, and is a key player in maintaining the high standards of BASIS Curriculum Schools.
Key Responsibilities
Role-Specific Responsibilities
Focus on monitoring and improving student behavior and academic performance.
Build and maintain a strong, positive, achievement-oriented school culture.
Oversee and support procedures for student conduct, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
Maintain student discipline and document behavioral incidents.
Coordinate academic support programs under the direction of the Director.
Monitor student arrival, dismissal, and daily attendance.
Assist students with academic and social challenges.
Collaborate with teachers on classroom management and communication with parents and students.
Provide guidance and support to parents regarding student well-being and performance.
Interchangeable Responsibilities
Review grade data and collaborate with the Director on academic interventions.
Supervise Teaching Fellows assigned to specific grades.
Work with the Head of School and ESS Coordinator to develop a Student Support Team (SST) process.
Actively manage Early Bird and Late Bird programs, including parent communication and structure.
Evaluate and support teachers in classroom management and parent relations.
School-Specific Responsibilities
Chaperone school events, including dances.
Coordinate student support programs such as Homework Buddy and Peer Tutoring.
Participate in faculty and staff meetings.
Check with school administration for additional duties as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
Organize and review assessment results, including new student evaluations, standardized testing, and BASIS-specific programs.
Coordinate planning and preparation for new student orientation.
Assist with the planning and execution of academic schedules and standardized assessments.

Strong belief in and adherence to the BASIS Curriculum model.
Excellent relationship-building skills with students, parents, and staff.
Proficiency in data analysis to improve student achievement.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
Exceptional problem-solving and negotiation skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
Attention to detail, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
Experience: 3-5 years in a school setting, ideally in a charter or independent school.
Clearance: All employees are required to obtain and maintain valid fingerprint clearance.
