Literacy Coach for 6th Grade through 8th Grade The Literacy Coach supports the consistent implementation of literacy instructional programs throughout Two Rivers, in alignment with the EL Education model and structured literacy approach. By working with the leadership teams, instructional teams, and individual teachers at our elementary schools, this position provides targeted support and guidance in the area of curriculum and instruction. The Literacy Coach supports this work through formal structures of coaching, common planning time, professional development planning and implementation, and participation on the instructional leadership team and relevant academic task forces. The Literacy Coach reports to the Chief Academic Officer. This is a 12-month position, which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Responsibilities Literacy Coaching Observe literacy instruction across the network to support our leaders in prioritizing the next steps for teachers to implement the literacy program at a consistently high level. Collaborate with our school-based leadership teams to organize literacy learning walks in grades 3-5 (elementary school literacy coach) or grades 6-8 (middle school literacy coach) for staff and the leadership team. Work with our school-based leadership teams to provide targeted literacy support for teachers in need. Conduct live demonstrations of evidence-based literacy strategies aligned to the science of reading (e.g., explicit vocabulary instruction, complex text analysis, and structured writing in response to text) within the classroom setting. Observe literacy blocks and provide non-evaluative, actionable feedback to help teachers refine their craft. Tailor coaching cycles to meet the needs of both veteran educators and first-year teachers. Professional Development Facilitate school-wide and grade-level professional learning aligned to the Science of Reading, curriculum expectations, and literacy assessment practices, with an emphasis on effective, content-aligned instructional routines and classroom management. Lead collaborative meetings where teachers examine student work and multiple data sources to identify trends, monitor progress, and align instructional practices to student needs. Stay current on literacy research, including the Science of Reading, to serve as the building expert and support teachers in implementing evidence-based, standards-aligned instructional practices. Collaborative Planning Lead collaborative team meetings (eg, facilitated planning, vertical alignment, data meetings) to build teachers' capacity to use student data to plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned ELA instruction, aligned to EL Education Models of Excellence and High-Quality Student Work. Along with school leadership teams, support teacher leaders in their ability to lead cycles of continuous improvement for their assigned grade band/content area. Build teachers' capacity to interpret universal screener and diagnostic data to develop instructional plans, create flexible, data-driven student groupings, and implement targeted interventions, Tier 1 instruction, and Sailing/Lab differentiation. Curate and organize high-quality mentor texts, Lexile-aligned text sets, and digital literacy tools to support standards-aligned instruction. Required Qualifications A bachelor's or master's degree in education, reading, literacy, or curriculum & instruction. A minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience at the elementary or middle school level with a proven track record of student growth in literacy. Successful experience leading and coaching adults is highly preferred, but not required. Experience in a project-based learning school or a school in the EL Education network, highly preferred, but not required. This is a multi-year, grant-funded position. Two Rivers seeks candidates who are committed to the position for the duration of the grant-funded period.
