    Position Summary

    Special Education Administrator - Related Services Supervisor is a 12-month position who assists in supervision of SPED SLP's and/or Social Workers, APE, and BCBA's, who provide the delivery of services for students who are identified with special needs. S/he works cooperatively with other school administrators and authorizes special education and pupil personnel services. The Special Education Supervisor reports to the Education Administrator of Specialized Learning and Student Services. S/he is a Member of the Special Education Leadership Team and s/he attends Building Leaders' meetings and site-based meetings.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Supervision, Evaluation

    • Ensures equitable and consistent delivery of special education services
    • Supervises and evaluates all shared staff and other assigned special education SLP's and/or Social Workers, APE, and BCBA's.
    • Directs the ongoing assessment of achievement for students with disabilities including progress monitoring, benchmark assessments and annual progress reviews.
    • Monitors guidelines and procedures for the identification and placement of students in special education programs
    • Supervises the special education summer school program (ESY)
    • Leads the recruitment, selection and assignment special education SLP's and/or Social Workers, APE, BCBA's and paraprofessionals.
    • Provides leadership for conflict resolution, SDE Complaints and assists the district response to litigation
    • Ensures the proper management of PPT's for all students including those in public school, 18-21-year-old Transition programs, charter, magnet schools.
    • Ensures program compliance in accordance with state and federal laws

    Professional Development

    • Researches, evaluates and implements best practices.
    • Develops training for building and district staff
    • Provides training for department administrators
    • Directs in-service meetings and individual conferences for all staff in partnership with regular education
    • Provides orientation and support for all new staff
    • Provides activities and resources for parents
    • Actively seeks opportunities to grow and learn

    Instruction

    • Ensures that the instructional and individualized programs of students requiring special education and all other related services are appropriate and that they are implemented with fidelity
    • Provides technical assistance to administrators, teachers and other staff regarding instructional strategies and student management
    • Approves the selection of appropriate instructional materials and methods
    • Partners in the planning and development of specialized classroom facilities
    • Participates in the design of all curriculum initiatives
    • Oversees school programs for homebound instruction and expelled students
    • Approves the need for special education paraprofessionals and ensures appropriate training

    Records and Reports

    • Ensures that special education records are kept in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines
    • Oversees the maintenance of records regarding levels and amount of service provided to each student
    • Approves contractual arrangements for supplementary educational services
    • Produces information and reports for senior administrative staff, the board, state and federal agencies, community agencies, and the public

    Communication

    • Engages regularly with building administration and teachers regarding best practices to address student needs
    • Communicates regularly with parents regarding special education processes, district procedures and individual student needs
    • Oversees all communication with attorneys
    • Functions as liaison to community agencies and other related organizations

    Financial

    • Reviews and recommends to the Education Administrators of Specialized Learning the annual budget for special education and pupil personnel services under his/her supervision
    • Support the management of medicaid billing
    • Assures availability of funding for all services
    • The Special Education Administrator performs other related duties as assigned by the Education Administrator of Specialized Learning and Student Services.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • CT Intermediate Administrator Certification (092) and certification in related services (speech or social work).
    • Three years Experience as a special education administrator or related services provider.
    • Understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to special education and services.

    Days: 12 Months (July - June)
    Salary: In accordance with the NASA contract
