Kansas Librarian Teaching Certification
Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university
Health Certificate on file in the Central Office

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

POSITION GOAL: The Librarian helps students and staff to make full use of the services and resources of
the school library program. In order to create a positive learning environment- the
Librarian must work closely with staff and administration of Unified School District 446.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Help students and staff make full use of the services and resources of the
school library program.
2. Establish an effective program of library-skills education- using time- materials
and resources effectively.
3. Procure and maintain an appropriate inventory of books- non-book materials-
equipment- and supplies for the library.
4. Appropriately catalogue and supervise the checkout and return of books and
materials.
5. Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs
of students.
6. Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
7. Communicate effectively with community organizations.
8. Work effectively with community organizations.
9. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
10. Support the value of an education.
11. Support the philosophy and mission of Unified School District 446.
12. Monitor overdue books- and contact parents concerning return or payment.
13. Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
14. Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual
differences.
15. Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
16. Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
17. Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate
classroom management.
18. Assist with the activities of student organizations.
19. Attend and assist when necessary with school events such as musical
programs- athletics- student recognition ceremonies- graduation- and open
house.
20. Participates actively in the school improvement process (QPA- NCA- etc.)
21. See that district policies are observed during all activities.
22. Keep abreast of new information- innovative ideas and techniques.
23. Obtain advance approval of the Principal for all activities and expenditures.
24. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
25. Maintains district and student confidentiality.
26. Other duties as assigned by the Principal- or other Administrative Staff.
27. Stays abreast of professional practices in the field.
28. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the
Building Principal may from time-to-time assign.
29. An essential function of this position is attendance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
2. Occasional stooping- bending- turning- and reaching.
3. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move- lift- carry- pull- or
push heavy objects or materials.
4. Occasional climbing of steps may be required in some buildings.
5. Requires some travel.
6. Must work indoor and outdoors year-round.
7. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.

The district operates four attendance centers: Independence High School (grades 9-12), Independence Middle School (grades 6-8),Jefferson School (grades 3-5), Eisenhower School (grades K-2) and Riley Early Learning Center ages 3 and 4.
