Superintendent - General Supervisor
PURPOSE:
To provide leadership in enabling students to utilize their educational opportunities to the fullest by eliminating problems preventing or interfering with the student's learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Comply with State approved Code of Ethics of the Education.
- The counselor will develop and implement a school level guidance program focused on the physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and vocational growth of each student by:
- Determining guidance priorities based on local assessed needs.
- Formulating measurable objectives from identified needs and priorities.
- Formulating specific tasks relating to achieving the objectives.
- Coordinating a continuing evaluation of the program.
- Coordination with the appropriate administration to achieve items a-d.
- The counselor will coordinate activities in the guidance and counseling program by:
- Working with other staff members to encourage the inclusion of a student-oriented philosophy in all school activities.
- Helping to integrate the guidance and counseling program within the total school program.
- Communicating with parents and community about services available within the guidance and counseling program.
- Learning about available school and community resources.
- Establishing and maintaining contact with school and community resources.
- Working with the administration to utilize community resources related to the guidance program.
- The counselor will provide information and facilitate guidance activities for students, staff, and parents by:
- Assisting others in their understanding of personal and social development.
- Serving a resource to facilitate groups and presentations on pertinent issues.
- Providing prevention strategies which address current issues such as chemical dependency, teenage pregnancy, suicide, dropping out, and various forms of abuse.
- Conducting activities on educational and career themes.
- Conducting orientation/training programs for students, parents, and staff.
- Providing resource materials and expertise dealing with issues affecting students, staff.
- Participate in the Building Screening committee, IEP, and SAT TEAM meetings.
- Do all screening, collection of data and parent intake documentation for Special Education referrals.
- Ensure all Special Education documentation is correct and legal on all referrals coming from the building site.
- Organize all district and state mandated testing at the building level.
- Ensure all testing material is correct and valid before turning in to the district office.
- Safeguard the confidentiality of privileged information.
- Must be technology literate.
- Perform other tasks as deemed appropriate and necessary by supervisor(s).
- Attend board meetings at the request of the Superintendent.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities
- Valid New Mexico licensure in Guidance/Counseling.
- High School counseling experience preferred.
- Demonstrate cooperativeness and willingness to carry-out assigned tasks and performance responsibility.
SALARY: As per district salary schedule
EVALUATION: Performance of the job will be conducted by the Principal
