POSITION SUMMARY
The High School Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader for grades 9-12. Primary responsibilities are to provide a clear vision for learning for all students; ensure a safe, secure and orderly learning environment; and cultivate strong relationships with and acts in service to diverse stakeholders, including families and communities. Principals are expected to promote high-quality instructional practices, passionately enjoy working with children, and believe that all students can achieve. In addition, Principals participate in selection and assignment of staff while supporting differentiated professional growth and building the leadership capacity of staff. Principals are expected to collect, analyze and use multiple sources of data to guide continuous improvement in student achievement, manage school operations, and effectively evaluate and develop staff.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop, articulate, steward, and operationalize a clear vision for learning for all students and implement a strategic plan to accomplish that vision
Ensure that all school stakeholders are able to articulate a clear and shared vision for learning
Ensure a safe, secure and orderly environment for all
Promote high-quality instructional practices that consistently allow for excellent instruction school-wide
Be visible and maintain consistent presence throughout the school
Provide teachers with timely and constructive feedback on classroom instruction to develop teacher practice
Clearly communicate learning and development goals that reflect high expectations for learning and growth, a belief that all students can learn, and a commitment to meet each student's educational needs
Develop a culture of collegial and professional relationships among staff and students that promote critical reflection, shared accountability, and continuous improvement
Manage conflict constructively at all levels
Develop systems and a school culture that promotes peer feedback, support, and collaboration
Carefully select and effectively assign staff
Support the professional growth of staff members in a differentiated manner based on identified needs and individual goals
Deliberately build leadership capacity among staff
Collect, analyze, and use multiple sources of data to guide continuous improvement in student achievement, student and staff well-being, and professional development for staff
Develop positive and collaborative relationships with families
Manage the design of academic curricula (scopes and sequences, unit plans, lesson plans, and assessments) for all subjects and grades that meet and exceed Pennsylvania State Standards
Manages the development and implementation of interim assessments
Accountable for the coordination and administration of State and non-mandated testing, including Keystone Assessments
Monitors grade-level progress against scope and sequence benchmarks
Communicates with the administrative team regularly to assess and monitor student achievement
Observes, coaches, and evaluates teachers on a regular basis
Runs ELA, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science data meetings, fostering teacher involvement, incorporating teacher feedback and data results, and ensuring high academic rigor
Conducts and completes formal teacher observations
Works with the administrative team to develop summer and on-going staff professional development
Represents the school within the regional maritime community through regular attendance at industry events, conferences, and advisory meetings, strengthening partnerships that enhance curriculum relevance and student opportunities
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Current PA Administrative certification for High School Principal required
Proven principal leadership experience in the upper grades
Ability to implement and monitor practices and procedures that improve academic success for 9-12 grade students
Collaborative work style, with ability to work in close communication with school administrative team
Current and acceptable FBI, PA Criminal, and PA Child Abuse clearances
A flexible personality that demonstrates enthusiasm, celebrates success, and responds positively to adversity, with interpersonal skills that relate well with students, staff, administration, parents
A strong work ethic and an excellent attendance record
Strong communication skills
An unwavering belief in the transformative power of quality charter schools and that all students can learn and achieve at high levels
WORKING CONDITIONS
The working conditions of a Principal include:
Very high levels of social interaction, with daily and consistent work with teachers and staff members.
Communicating with people face-to-face on a daily basis, as well as communication through phone, e-mail, letters, and memos.
Responsibility for the health and safety of the children in their school.
Working as part of a team of educators.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Principal is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
