Job Description
Mount Mansfield Unified Union School District is seeking a Reading Specialist at Brewster-Pierce Memorial School to support elementary students and teachers through high-quality literacy instruction, intervention, and coaching. This is a dual-role position focused primarily on direct student impact through intensive literacy intervention, while also supporting educators through instructional coaching and literacy leadership.
The Reading Specialist serves as a building literacy leader and supports the district's implementation of the Science of Reading and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). This position works closely with classroom teachers, intervention teams, and administrators to improve literacy outcomes for all students.
Primary Responsibilities
Direct Student Intervention (approximately 80%)
Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 literacy intervention to individuals and small groups
Deliver structured literacy instruction targeting phonological awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on data
Collaborate with school teams to support student intervention plans
Communicate student progress with families and staff
Instructional Coaching & Literacy Leadership (approximately 20%)
Support classroom teachers through coaching, modeling, and co-planning
Assist teams in analyzing literacy screening and progress monitoring data
Support implementation of literacy curriculum and instructional practices
Participate in PLCs and district literacy initiatives
Support Universal Design for Learning and equitable instructional practices
Qualifications
Master's Degree in Reading/Literacy or related field
Minimum of five years of teaching experience with demonstrated success improving literacy outcomes
Experience with MTSS, PLCs, and data-driven instruction preferred
Valid Vermont Teaching License with Reading Specialist or Specialized Literacy Professional endorsement
Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
