Certified Teacher - Reading Coach/Specialist
Reading Coach/Specialist: Must have completed or be willing to complete ARI Training. Must have a minimum of three years teaching experience. Applicants should exhibit strong interpersonal skills and commit to continued professional growth. Duties include, but are not limited to: Participating actively in all ARI reading coach trainings and support visits; demonstrating a high level of skill in scientifically-based reading research programs (SBRR) and instruction; adhering consistently to an approved schedule; planning with teachers for reading/literacy instruction; planning with the principal for literacy efforts; monitoring and analyzing assessment data; and facilitating professional development at the school. Other responsibilities and duties may be assigned by the principal and/or the Central Office ARI contact person.
The duties include but are not limited to:
- Establishes objectives and plans learning experiences.
- Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
- Exhibits positive human relations skills.
- Evaluates the educational program and/or student progress.
- Communicates with parents/guardians, colleagues, and community groups.
- Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
- Maintains and submits records and reports.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state and federal rules and regulations.
- Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have appropriate valid Alabama Teaching Certificate.

SALARY: As per Walker County Schools Salary Schedule, depending on degree and experience. (The salary listed does not reflect the 2% raise for the 2026-27 school year(
- This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Walker County Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Walker County Schools.
- Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30th.
Applicants selected for certified positions must have undergone an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the WCBOE and State of Alabama Education Department) and been declared suitable and fit to teach under state law.
