Job Description
Mill River Union Schools is seeking a passionate, organized, and student-centered Athletic Director to lead and manage the elementary school's athletic program. The Athletic Director will be responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing all aspects of sports and physical activity programming for students in grades 3-6 . This is a stipend position, not full-time. This role is ideal for someone who values teamwork, youth development, and the role athletics play in fostering a healthy, inclusive, and dynamic school community.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, schedule, and manage a variety of age-appropriate athletic programs and extracurricular sports teams.
Supervise coaches and physical education staff, ensuring adherence to school values and safety standards.
Coordinate facility use, equipment inventory, and maintenance of sports areas.
Promote student participation and ensure programs are inclusive and accessible to all students.
Organize transportation, referees, and supervision for all athletic events and competitions.
Ensure compliance with relevant local, state, and national regulations or athletic associations.
Collaborate with school leadership, teachers, and parents to align athletic programs with the school's educational mission.
Promote sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork through structured and informal athletic experiences.
Manage the athletic budget and seek opportunities for sponsorship or community partnerships.
Communicate effectively with families, staff, and community members about schedules, expectations, and events.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, Education, or related field
Prior experience coaching or coordinating athletic programs, preferably in a school setting.
Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to employment).
Commitment to the developmental needs of elementary-aged children and inclusive programming.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with athletic budgeting and resource management.
Familiarity with league regulations and compliance standards.
Ability to mentor and support youth coaches and volunteers.
Passion for creating equitable access to sports and recreation for all students.
