QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Masters Degree with course work in Educational Administration (Elementary Level)
  2. Valid Maine certificate as K-12 School Principal

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Evidence of elementary level administrative experience
  2. Evidence of elementary level experience

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools

SUPERVISES: All professional and support personnel who are assigned to the school

JOB GOAL: To use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills so as to promote the educational development of each student and the effective performance of school personnel

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school
  2. Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school
  3. Keeps the Superintendent informed of the school activities and problems (students, transportation personnel, maintenance and operation of building)
  4. Makes recommendations concerning the schools administration and instruction
  5. Prepares and submits the school's budgetary requests, and monitors expenditures of funds
  6. Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports
  7. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administration
  8. Works with various members of the central administrative staff on school problems of more than school import, such as transportation and special services
  9. Keeps superintendent informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters related to the supervisor's accountability
  10. Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations
  11. Maintains active relationships with students and parents
  12. Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business
  13. Leads faculty in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program
  14. Schedules classes within established guidelines to meet student needs
  15. Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum
  16. Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development
  1. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process rights of students
  2. Establishes guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline
  3. Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events
  4. Maintains and controls the various local funds generated by student activities
  5. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students
  6. Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and maintenance of health issues of students
  7. Assumes responsibility for his or her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in professional organizations
  8. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals, and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field
  9. Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and support personnel
  10. Participates in the selection and supervision of all school building personnel
  11. Approves the master teaching schedule and any special assignments
  12. Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate
  13. Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance
  14. Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school
  15. Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with specia1 responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions
  16. Recommends, according to established procedures, the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory
  17. Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant
  18. Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and non-academic purposes
  19. Plans and supervises fire drills and emergency preparedness program
  20. Asserts leadership in times of' civil disobedience in school in accordance with established Board policy
  21. Provides for adequate inventories of school property and for the security and accountability for that property
  22. Supervises all activities and programs that are outgrowths of the school's curriculum
  23. Supervises and evaluates the school's extracurricular program
  24. Participates in Administrative Team meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate
  25. Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees and councils within the school
  26. Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation
  27. Responds to written and oral requests for information
  28. Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence and news releases
  29. Establishes and maintains relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs; to interpret Board policies and administrative directives; and to discuss and resolve individual student problems
  1. Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the Superintendent
  2. Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the Principal
  3. Performs such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent

LEGAL AND ETHICAL DUTIES:

  1. Maintains confidentiality about all aspects of student performance and written and oral records
  2. Demonstrates a respect for the legal and human rights of students, instructors, and other staff
  3. Follows health and safety procedures established by the District
  4. Arrives and departs punctually, notifying appropriate personnel about absences and coverage
  5. Demonstrates dependability, integrity, and other ethical standards
