Primary Purpose

Plan, implement, and coordinate comprehensive student support services while overseeing district testing and accountability systems. Support students in developing academic, career, personal, and social skills while coordinating state assessment programs, accountability reporting processes, intervention systems, and campus support services that promote student success and district effectiveness.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas school counselor certificate required
  • Principal certification preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
  • Knowledge of social-emotional learning and student support systems
  • Knowledge of district and state assessment systems and accountability requirements
  • Ability to coordinate district testing and accountability systems
  • Ability to analyze instructional, behavioral, attendance, and assessment data
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group settings
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Experience

  • Experience working with students in educational or counseling settings preferred
  • District testing coordination or accountability experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Guidance Curriculum and Student Support

  • Plan, organize, implement, and support structured guidance and student support activities
  • Provide instruction related to interpersonal skills, safety, post-secondary planning, and personal development
  • Collaborate with staff and community members to identify student needs and priorities
  • Integrate student support and guidance activities into campus instructional programs
  • Use engaging instructional strategies and technology tools to support student learning

Responsive Services and Student Interventions

  • Provide support services for students experiencing academic, social, emotional, or behavioral challenges
  • Respond appropriately to crisis situations and provide immediate student support
  • Use preventive and intervention strategies to remove barriers to student success
  • Provide referrals to community agencies and outside support services as needed
  • Serve as a student advocate and support conflict resolution processes

Individual Planning and Student Success

  • Assist students and families with academic, career, and personal planning
  • Support students with goal setting, graduation planning, and post-secondary readiness
  • Interpret assessment and testing data to support student growth and decision making
  • Promote equitable access to programs and opportunities for all students

District Testing Coordination and Accountability

  • Coordinate district and campus testing operations in compliance with TEA and district requirements
  • Manage testing security procedures, training, materials distribution, and testing documentation
  • Coordinate testing schedules, accommodations, and communication with campuses and staff
  • Compile, organize, verify, and analyze student performance and accountability data
  • Support district accountability calculations, reporting, and performance monitoring processes
  • Assist with preparation of accountability reports, presentations, and district initiative documentation
  • Maintain current knowledge of state assessment and accountability systems and requirements

System Support and Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in campus and district improvement planning and student support initiatives
  • Provide parent and staff training related to student development, testing, and accountability systems
  • Maintain counseling, testing, and accountability documentation, audits, and records
  • Participate in professional development and continuing education opportunities
  • Communicate student support, testing, and accountability information to stakeholders
  • Comply with federal, state, and district policies and procedures
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise assigned testing personnel, counseling aides, and administrative support staff as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional and testing equipment

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, keyboarding, and use of office equipment

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students when necessary

Environment: Work primarily inside; occasional outdoor duties; occasional districtwide travel; prolonged or irregular hours may be required during testing windows

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions and deadlines
