Job Description

Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union seeks a dedicated and experienced School Social Worker to join our team! The licensed School Social Worker will provide social and emotional services to students in grades 6-8 at our newly restructured regional middle school, Equinox Valley Middle School. Under the direction of the Director of Special Education and Building Principal, the licensed School Social Worker delivers comprehensive direct and consultative social work services to students whose academic performance is affected by social, emotional, or behavioral challenges. This role serves as a critical bridge, facilitating seamless communication between the educational environment, the home, and external community resources.

This position offers a rewarding opportunity for a licensed clinician to provide impactful individual and group counseling while supporting families and collaborating extensively with classroom teachers, interventionists, and related service providers. As an integrated member of the school community, the School Social Worker will champion school-wide PBIS initiatives, restorative justice practices, and social-emotional learning frameworks. Operating on a school-year calendar, the daily schedule is designed to accommodate essential meeting times before and after instructional hours, ensuring ample opportunity for direct engagement with families.

The role requires the ability to conduct assessments, analyze student data, adjust interventions based on progress monitoring, and ensure that all students have equal access to education and services to enhance their academic progress through interdisciplinary leadership, collaboration and advocacy.

The School Social Worker must meet the provisions for professional practice set by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), adhere to the NASW Code of Ethics, and possess the knowledge and understanding basic to the social work profession, while understanding the unique aspects of social work practice in the education setting.

Qualified candidates with expertise in supporting children who have navigated developmental trauma are strongly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate brings a clinical background in school social work services and demonstrates expertise in evidence-based instructional practices, trauma-informed practices, and inclusive service delivery models. Strong candidates will exhibit a student-centered approach, exceptional oral and written communication skills, and the ability to build and sustain meaningful relationships with students and families. A demonstrated commitment to equity, working collaboratively with all colleagues, and fostering a positive learning environment for all students is essential.
