Job Summary:
Primary responsibility is to maintain compliance with federal regulations concerning F1 international students. Additionally, the ISS Coordinator will work closely with faculty, staff, and students to provide effective advising, in support of international students' completion of their educational goals. The coordinator ensures adherence to university, state, and federal regulations regarding international students. These tasks are to be performed in a manner that professionally, cordially, and efficiently assists the students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Description of Job Duties:
Serve as SWOSU's Designated School Official (DSO), acting as liaison to SEVP, DHS, and USCIS; maintain and update student SEVIS records, issue I-20s, and ensure institutional compliance with all relevant immigration regulations.
Review international students' applications for undergraduate and graduate admission and collaborate with the Graduate Admissions office and the general Admissions office to ensure international students' documents are accurately reviewed.
Maintain students' records according to SWOSU policies and DHS requirements; update document status in SWOSU student information systems and follow up with students who have pending documents to ensure they are received.
Ensure that former SWOSU International Students participating in OPT are reporting employment and meeting federal employment regulations.
Assist international students with applying/submitting the appropriate paperwork to the federal government for reinstatements and Visa change of status requests.
Create international student reports for institutional and federal reporting needs and/or requirements. Complete required information and submit appropriate forms for federal compliance surveys, certifications, and audits.
Develop promotional materials and update the international communications plan to attract international students to attend
Provide academic advisement of new and freshman international students ensuring they are enrolled full time and in appropriate level courses and assist with the assignment of an advisor in their major.
Refer Tuberculosis testing to SWOSU Center for Health and Wellbeing.
Collaborate with Athletic Departments and Academic Departments to obtain scholarships information for eligible international students and work closely with the SWOSU Business Services and Bursar on student billing issues.
Plan and deliver international student orientation programs (in-person and virtual) covering arrival, cultural adjustment, and employment opportunities including Optional Practical Training/Curricular Practical Training.
Assist students with travel arrangements to and from airports, re-entry documentation, and related compliance matters.
Assist in the coordination and communication of on-campus and off-campus cultural opportunities for international students.
Promote a positive image of SWOSU through participation in community and professional organizations, representing SWOSU at professional meetings and on community committees, and establishing and maintaining credible relations with various news media.
Advises F-1 students on on-campus employment eligibility, ensures compliance with federal regulations, and authorizes and documents work permissions in SEVIS.
Provide educational materials and familiarize international students with their tax filing requirements.
Manage international student health insurance enrollment and billing in coordination with Bursar's office and insurance providers.
Additional Responsibilities:
Serve as non-voting, ex-officio member for the Southwestern International Student Association (SISA).
Available to assist with emergent situations during or after working hours whether in-person, by phone or email contact.
Must be willing and able to perform job related travel. Must maintain a current and valid driver license. Will require occasional overnight travel.
Promote personal safety, safety procedures and a safe work environment.
Other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment:
Employment at will.
Reports to Special Services Coordinator.
Wage to be established by SWOSU's wage structure.
Safety and job-related trainings will be completed as instructed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree is required.
Previous experience with an international program located within a university; advisement and recruitment experience preferred.
Knowledge of U.S. Immigration laws and procedures, recruitment, and student services preferred
Ability to speak a second language is preferred.
Excellent written, oral, and grammatical skills are required.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse populations including students from around the world, faculty, administration, staff, and community supporters.
Ability to conduct research and solve various challenges as presented by the population.
Organizational skills and proper attention to detail are necessary.
Efficiency in Microsoft 365.
