The Chesterfield Township School District is a high-achieving PK-6 district located in northwestern Burlington County. The district is currently seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill the Dean of Students position.
Title: Dean of Students
Reports To: Principal
Job Goal: The Dean of Students serves as a key school leader responsible for fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. This role emphasizes proactive student support, positive behavior systems, and strong partnerships with families and the community.
Aligned with the district's mission to develop "responsible, respectful citizens and active life-long learners," the Dean of Students promotes a positive school climate that supports both academic success and social-emotional growth.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, School Counseling, or related field preferred.
Valid New Jersey certification (Teacher, Supervisor, Principal, School Administrator)
Minimum of 3-5 years of successful experience in education (elementary experience strongly preferred).
Experience working with elementary-aged students in behavior, climate, or student services roles.
Demonstrated experience with restorative practices, PBIS, or SEL initiatives preferred.
Strong understanding of child development and elementary-level behavioral supports.
Knowledge of NJ education law related to discipline, attendance, and student services.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to engage families.
Ability to work collaboratively in a small, community-centered school environment.
Performance Responsibilities:
Student Discipline & Behavioral Systems
Implement and enforce the district's Code of Student Conduct in accordance with New Jersey Administrative Code.
Lead development and implementation of age-appropriate discipline practices for elementary students.
Utilize restorative practices, PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports), and developmentally appropriate interventions.
Maintain accurate discipline records and ensure compliance with NJDOE reporting.
School Climate & Culture
Promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful school environment consistent with the district's "No Place for Hate" and character education initiatives.
Support schoolwide programs that reinforce citizenship, responsibility, and respect.
Collaborate with staff to embed social-emotional learning into daily practice.
Attendance & Family Engagement
Monitor student attendance and tardiness; intervene early with at-risk students.
Partner with families to address attendance and behavioral concerns.
Serve as a primary point of contact for parent communication related to student conduct.
Student Support & Intervention
Work closely with counselors, Child Study Team members, and teachers to support students' behavioral and emotional needs.
Participate in IEP, 504, and intervention planning meetings as appropriate.
Support Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and intervention frameworks already in place within the district.
Staff Collaboration & Support
Provide guidance to teachers on classroom management and student behavior strategies.
Assist staff in implementing consistent schoolwide expectations.
Support professional development initiatives related to student behavior and climate.
Supervision & Operations
Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and school events.
Assist in maintaining school safety and emergency preparedness procedures.
Collaborates with appropriate staff to plan and supervise the 6th grade camping trip.
Attends school and community sponsored events.
Develops and supervises the lunch/recess aide schedule and appropriate training.
Develops and supervises the duty schedule.
Serves as the chairperson of the school's Intervention and Referral Services Team
District Anti-Bullying Coordinator
Develops and implements a process for discussing the district's HIB policy with students.
Coordinates and implements training on the distribution of the HIB policy and procedures for reporting of HIB for BOE members, school employees, contracted service personnel, students, administration, and school volunteers.
Establishes, implements, documents and assesses HIB prevention programs in consultation with school staff, students, administration, volunteers, parents, law enforcement and community members.
Collaborates with anti-bullying specialists.
Provides data, in collaboration with the superintendent, to the NJDOE regarding HIB of students.
Executes such other duties related to school HIB as requested by the superintendent.
Meets at least twice a school year with the school anti-bullying specialists in the district to discuss and strengthen procedures and policies to prevent, identify, and address HIB in the district.
Terms of Employment
10 months
Salary to be determined by the Board of Education within the range of $60,000 to $100,00 based on experience.
