TITLE: Principal Designee - Chaffee Elementary

SUMMARY: A Principal Designee is a certified educator who is appointed to supervise the school in the Principal's absence. They are typically non-administrative staff members who are authorized to act on behalf of the principal when all administrators are absent from the school site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintaining school operations when the principal is out:Ensuring the smooth continuity of the instructional program and daily school activities.Student supervision and discipline: Implementing and maintaining established guidelines for student conduct and addressing disciplinary issues as needed.Responding to inquiries and concerns: Appropriately handling and responding to complaints and inquiries from parents/guardians, students, and staff members.Emergency procedures: Being aware of and prepared to implement emergency response procedures in the event of an emergency.Communication and collaboration: Maintaining effective communication with staff, students, and parents/guardians to promote a positive school climate and resolve issues.Supporting all staff in the needs of the day

Additionally, the Principal Designee will:Be a member of the ILC teamConsult with the principal on a variety of topicsBe a member of the Crisis TeamMay be asked to attend admin meetings, when needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE

Master's degree in education or related field from an accredited college/university is preferred. Valid state licensure in Massachusetts to practice as a teacher in Early Elementary or Elementary education. Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience working with elementary students. Currently has or is working toward a license in administration. Current member of the Oxford Education Association (OEA).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies governing education and public schools; curriculum and instructional programs and best practices in content areas, assessment, and dealing with difficult behaviors.

Skill-based competencies include strong managerial and organizational leadership; excellent communication; strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, problem solving, planning, and organizational skills.

Ability based competencies include reading, communicating, interpreting, and assisting with the enforcement of appropriate state and federal statutes and school policies and procedures; working effectively with administration, colleagues, staff, students, parents, and the community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, employees are required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods; move short and long distances, operate computer equipment, accommodations may be made for an individual with disabilities to perform these functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy school environment. The noise level is usually moderate to loud but occasionally high depending upon the student population and activities.
