Title: School Guidance Counselor (10 month)
Qualifications:
Must pass an appropriate background check
Must have the physical ability, aptitude, and skills to complete all duties related to the job
Must have the ability to maintain good interpersonal skills
College graduate and meet the requirements as set by the State of Alabama certification
Such alternatives to the qualifications listed above or below as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with other staff members to develop and implementa a guidance plan for the school.
2.Selects a variety of materials to accomplish the objectives of the school's guidance plan.
Implements the guidance plan through the use of effective instructional skills.
Provides orientation for students and parents to the school and the guidance program.
Serves as the school coordinator for all standardized testing.
Uses available data to identify abilities, interests and achievement of students.
Keeps complete and accurate records .
Provides individual student counseling. and crisis intervention.
Assists other staff members in working to improve student behaviors.
Conducts small-group counseling for students.
Collects and interprets appropriate information needed for student referrals.
Builds trust with students and maintains confidentiality.
Stays abreast with requirements of Special Education, Section 504 and other such opportunities for students.
Maintains a positive demeanor when interacting with students, parents and other staff members.
Communicates effectively in both oral and written composition.
Assumes responsibility for own professional development by participating in required and elective activities.
Adheres to local, state and federal policies and guidelines relative to the counseling position.
