Description:

The position will transition with their 8th grade case load to the high school, for students' 9th grade year, to aid in facilitating the move between middle and high school by providing students with the targeted transitional support, stability, and guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare students with executive functioning skills essential for high school success, including organization, note-taking, time management, and self-advocacy.
• Guide students in identifying their interests, strengths, and future goals while assisting with exploration of high school pathways, including honors courses, electives, and career & technical education programs.
• Provide individual and group counseling to support students' academic, social, emotional, and career development.
• Assist students in setting academic goals and developing individualized educational and postsecondary plans.
• Support students as they adjust to increased academic and social expectations by identifying challenges early and providing targeted interventions and support.
• Monitor student progress and collaborate with teachers, parents/guardians, counselors, and administrators to address concerns and support student success.
• Provide crisis intervention and support for students experiencing personal, family, social, or emotional challenges.
• Interpret assessment results, attendance data, academic performance, and behavioral data to guide intervention planning and program recommendations.
• Promote a positive school climate through the implementation of programs focused on mental health awareness, resilience, and student connectedness.
• Collaborate with community agencies and outside providers to connect students and families with additional supports and resources.
• Maintain confidential student records in compliance with district policies, ethical standards, and legal guidelines.
• Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current on counseling best practices, student wellness initiatives, and educational regulations.
• Support students with special needs and advocate for equitable access to appropriate services, accommodations, and supports.

Certifications/Qualifications:

• Valid NJ Certification: School Counselor - Required
• Masters Degree in School Counseling - Required
• Ability to build positive relationships with members of the school and local community
• Strong communication, collaborations, and organizational skills
