This position is responsible for delivering high-quality academic coaching for students needing additional assistance in Specific academic disciplines. Designed to enhance students understanding of subject matter, improve study skills, and contribute to the students overall academic achievements, the position may provide Open Lab academic coaching providing coaching services for students on a walk-in basis in an open lab setting or 1:1 coaching, providing 1:1 coaching by appointment only and specified to a specific content area.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide academic coaching services to students in specific subject areas assisting students in understanding and mastering course content, assignments, and projectsAssist students in developing effective study techniques, time management, note taking, test preparation, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and promote independent learning and self-efficacyFamiliarize students with available educational resources, including but not limited to the library, online materials, and academic support services.Refer students to appropriate campus resources, such as academic advisors, career services, or counselingProvide communication and feedback to instructors and academic support staff regarding students progress, as well as common areas of difficulty for studentsStay current with effective academic coaching techniques, specific discipline content, and pedagogical trends Provide assistance in training new coachesMay assist with program recruitment efforts, such as semi-annual Open Houses eventsOther duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Strong knowledge of specific subject matter on at least a baccalaureate levelUnderstanding of pedagogy. Knowledge of working with students learning differences preferred. Proficiency in using educational technology and online resources for coaching sessions.Ability to work effectively with students, both in one-on-one and group instruction situationsAbility to think critically by applying problem solving practicesEffective interpersonal communication skills - oral, written, technical and non-technical information, and listeningStrong customer service skills, working with individuals from diverse backgroundsAbility to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleaguesAbility to work independently, as part of a team and/or with minimal supervisionBasic level of proficiency with computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations and/or publishing., learning management systems EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in specific discipline; Masters degree preferred.Training and teaching experience in an educational setting required. Position details: This is a part-time, casual, 10-month, up to 15/hours per week position, not eligible for benefits.. Hours: Monday through Friday, with scheduled hours falling between 8:30am7:30pm.
