Responsible for literacy instruction serving as a reading interventionist for SCSDB; supports, supplements, and extends classroom teaching by providing direct reading instruction to students; and works to implement quality reading programs that are research-based and meet the needs of sensory disabled students.
1. Instruction: Implement and refine district approved curriculum and effective instructional strategies to meet the educational needs of students in small groups and individually. Ensure research-based reading programs are implemented with fidelity. Systematically gather, analyze, and use data to measure student progress; guide and differentiate instruction; and provide timely feedback. Use technology effectively to enhance student learning and to manage the classroom.
2. Student Achievement: Regularly assess and monitor student performance and achievement in the area of reading. Prioritize instructional time to maximize growth in student reading performance and achievement. Collaborate with classroom teachers regarding the reading strengths and needs of individual students in order to improve student reading performance and achievement across curricular content areas.
3. Planning and Management: Use research-based reading programs to plan lessons and activities related to reading based on the needs of individual students. Maintain records and documentation related to the performance and progress of individual students. Manage small groups with clear, consistent expectations for student participation and behavior. Assist in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans consistent with compliance requirements. Attend meetings as applicable as part of a students educational team.
4. Professionalism: Meet district and school deadlines established for task completion. Participate in professional development opportunities. Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and collaborate effectively with other staff members. Adhere to district guidelines for staff attendance and follow board-approved policies and procedures. Implement Strategic Plan action steps. Contribute to the overall success of the school and share its commitment to the education of individuals with sensory differences. Maintain confidentiality of student information and records in accordance with SCSDB, State, and/or Federal laws/regulations.
Must hold a SC Teacher's License in Early Childhood, Elementary, or closely related field. Must hold a bachelor's degree or higher and a minimum of the R2S Literacy Teacher endorsement; the R2S Literacy Coach or R2S Literacy Specialist endorsement is preferred. Ability to implement appropriate communication modality and/or to acquire requisite skills.
If selected for an interview you must provide verification of your highest level of education (e.i., copy of BA degree, high school diploma, college transcripts) and if applicable licensure and/or certification (e.i., nursing licensure, teacher licensure, bus driver certification).
